Whoever coined the phrase, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”, was clearly referring to Octavia Spencer and Tadashi Shoji.
Octavia took to the red carpet at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California this evening for the 2013 Critics’ Choice Movie Awards wearing a custom-made dress by her go-to designer.
Her navy tulle draped cap-sleeve dress, inspired by a gown from the designers’ look book, was enriched with paillette lace appliqué across the sleeve and bodice.
Navy satin accessories, tear drop Irene Neuwirth earrings and a half-up-half-down hairstyle completed her look.
Is this still a winning combination for you, or would you like to see Octavia switch things up a bit?

Pretty but nothing new. It is the same drapping around the middle that we’ve seen in her other Tadashi Shoji gowns.
Still winning for me! She is an amazing style example to other well-endowed ladies that struggle on the red carpet. Octavia always looks so effortlessly beautiful! I love the Brigette Bardot-like hairstyle (although it may compete with the shoulder details) and her matchy-matchy styling. I love the gown, too, but I think that the shorter length works for her.
+1.
She looks so effortlessly beautiful!
I agree 100%.
totally agree with you! WINNING
Octavia is a delight on the red carpet which proves that A) a good designer designs for all body types – not just skinny supermodels- B) Octavia knows what works for her !
she may stick to Tadashi, but she does have range so it keeps it interesting IMO
I agree completely! Octavia and Tadashi will always be a winning combination for me! He knows how to dress a lady and I adore her loyalty! We haven’t seen her hair down a lot so I like this hairstyle. Gorgeous from head to toe!
Winning for me too! Has she lost weight?
Still winning combination, also like to see Octavia switch things up a bit. It’s a dilemma for me.
She looks in their designs but it would be nice to see her wearing something different once in awhile
But she knows what works for her.
The dress is pretty but the long gown version is so much more beautiful. Octavia looks nice, the shorter length suits her height better, her matchy styling works fine on this occasion, but I think she needs a slightly longer sleeve.
Nope. Octavia Spencer looks just as fabulous as she always did while wearing Tadashi’s designs.
So I say keep it up….for whatever it’s worth
Why wear something and look bad when you know you can look really good? She should have worn the gown though. I like the hairstyle but I’m not sure if it being down draws focus to her bust or not.
Lovely, style, grace, class, I could go on and on.
I think she never looked better! The colour is amazing, the shoes and the hair are gorgeous. Honestly, she looked more beautiful than ever.
Still winning but she should have worn the gown.
+1
“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” for sure!
The dress is divine on the model.
She looks lovely. But I don’t know if it’s the picture, or this shade makes her beautiful skin look a little bit ashy.
WHY WOULD YOU SHORTEN A GOWN THAT LENGTHENS YOUR TORSO IN A BEAUTIFUL WAY??
She is a beautiful woman. I’m just disappointed that she shortened it. Really.
I don’t like this at all.
I really think that there are not a lot of designers who dress curvy women like Shoji does, so I understand why she sticks with him. But she should try Queen Latifah’s stylist, he (she) does wonders for her and she never wears the same things all the time. Octavie looks great though.
The dress is BEAUTIFUL (I want it!) and I’m happy that she shortened it, so that she’s not overdressed for the event.
It’s still a winning combination, but I wish that she’d worn the longer version. I also don’t like her hair here.
Looks gorgeous! Winning and perfect combination!
Whereas I was so bored with Marion in repeated Dior appearances, I think Octavia and her relaysh with TS works on all levels. Their collaboration always seems fresh
it works!
I dont mind that she sticks to one designer. This looks good, but something is off for me. I think it looks too dark and there is too much going on around her face with her hair, earrings, and high neckline. I might have liked it alot better with her hair back or up.
gorgeous.
If a short dress was necessary, for the occasion, fine. But then to tease us with the gorgeous long gown is tricky. But she looks fab, so she would be crazy to change a thing.
Winning combo. She looks great.
She looks fabulous! Love the bangs.
Still a good combo, but I wish Octavia’s dress had more of a neckline – the high neckline looks much better on the model
I feel like a lot of the detailing is lost on Octavia’s dress. Also, not sure about the color may be a slightly lighter shade would have been better.
Love it! I think this is one of my favourite of her Tadashi Shoji looks and the hair is great.
she looks amazing!
