Zhang Ziyi took to the red carpet at the at iSQUARE Shopping Centre in Hong Kong yesterday evening for the premiere of her latest project, ‘The Grandmasters’.
She’s got it bad: an addiction to all things Marc Bouwer.
Since last year, the actress has worn several of the designer’s pieces; this time she went back into the archives to don this striking Spring 2011 dress.
The psychedelic explosion of prints and colours is outstanding. This was yet another risk for Zhang Ziyi that paid off.
Her high-neck, bold-shoulder look was paired with her favourite YSL nude ‘Tribute’ pumps and her favourite centre-parted bun.
Yay, nay or are you on the fence?

This dress is hot! But, the shoes make the look deflate like a sad balloon. How do you choose those snoozey platforms when you’ve zipped up into this eye-popping dress??
Exactly!! No the shoes but yes yes to the dress!
YES!
Agreed!
I agree. Shoes are quite a let down.
I agree.
This funky dress had a lot potential but Zhang Ziyi’s styling let it all the way down. Even her hair is boring.
+1
Agree – hate the shoes love the dress
Yay on it.
A little risk about fashion is great.
I’m so yay!!!!
Me too!
I think I would like it better without the sleeves and you can’t even fathom how much I despise those shoes with this dress.
A big big big NO to this look. I absolutely hate everything from the neck down.
Hate the hair too.
I agree. I don’t like anything about this look. This is a huge disappointment after her mostly perfect looks.
Yay, she is rocking this look. It’s not my usual style but i love this dress on her.
The heavy pumps aside, she is totally rocking this fiery daring dress, I can forgive the footwear on this occasion.
The dress is gorgeous, but the shoes… so boring. But still “yay”
Stunning print and bold shoulders.
I wish the hem was a bit shorter.
And don’t get me started on these horrid pumps. The many colours in the print allowed for pretty much anything exciting, anything but stripper shoes really.
BIIIG Nay! For one thing these shoes would ruin the best of dresses… Regardless, the pattern and fabric are too psychedelic for my taste! I will say that the structure and cut of the dress would be divine in another color and fabric!
Yay. It’s risky & out there. But I like that she stands out–and not in a Lady Gaga outré way either that frequently crosses the line between good & bad taste. There’s still good taste here.
yey from me. She could have done better with the shoes, but whit that dress something simple was in order.
ew pumps
The dress is great, but she’s not working it. And the shoes just bring the whole look down.
the shoes though, the shoes are terrible. why couldn’t she have gone with red or yellow (though i’d prefer red) strappy heels or red pointy pumps?
A thumbs up from me. I like how colourful and bold the dress is but she looks elegant and isn’t overpowered by it. I would change the shoes to something less heavy but at least they’re nude so not really prominent.
+1. She’s stepped up her game. A true playa 4 real in the fashion stakes.
I love this dress. I think she looks fab in it. However, I do wish she wore a different pair of heels.
love the dress on her, fantastic, but the shoes are all wrong, not in color but shd’ve been diff style
I love it all except the shoes. She looks wonderful!
Yay!
On the fence. I appreciate the look, but it’s awful.
A for effort, F in execution.
She looks great! She seems to be really having fun with her style lately – seamlessly going between more avant-garde looks and her tried-and-true princess gowns.
Those pumps need to go away. I wish she would just switch over to Pigalles, which are essentially the same thing but much sexier and less bulky! Both this and her caped look would have put her in much better stead than these Tribs. But she still looks fantastic!
+1
I love the dress and can live with the shoes. She looks spectacular.
The problem with chinese actresses is they (their stylists) don’t know how to accessorize.Either they go for the catwalk look completely or they wear wrong accessories.I hate the dress.
Wow! This is bold. Zhang Ziyi is now my go to woman for DRAMA! I would love to see a 30 minute TV special “Zhang and Solange go shopping”.
I think this dress could go two ways, it could go in the direction of the model and be worn funky by a young edgy singer or actress. Or it could go sort of classy which is what Zhang attempted to do. I think this dress is loud and obnoxious to begin with so for her to look pretty in it is saying a lot. I definitely don’t love it but you gotta give her props for wearing it as well as she does in a sophisticated way. Unless of course you really wanted to see someone more edgy wear it.
Love it!!! Soooo bold
Love the print but she really needs to stop with the bold shoulders and clompy hoof heels..they are not doing her any favors
Zhang almost pulls it off, but it’s just…the dress is super, super hideous. It’s eye-searing, in my opinion. The pumps are bad too. So…yeah. Not working for me.
Lose the pumps, please! They’re so last decade. They ruined the look. With your clout, could you not find a sponsor to loan you some contemporary shoes?
WOOOW, I was just scrolling but had to stop and comment on this one – STUNNING!!
Sorry but it’s a nay from me on this one… This dress looks like a web. I prefer Zhang’s more elegant and “princess-like” would I say side. + those shoes are horrendous
OMG!So ugly!
