Further proof that Spring 2013 is all about the single sole: Rupert Sanderson’s ‘Elba’ pumps, the latest object of the red-carpet set’s affection.
These four-inch stilettos by the London-based cobbler have been spotted everywhere this fall, from Lea Michelle’s nude calfskin rendition at Marie Claire’s Hollywood Dinner to the nectarine shade picked by both Emma Stone and Bella Heathcote for press events in New York and Los Angeles in early December.
Leslie Mann and Zoe Saldana were also on the same wavelength when they went with a burnt gold version to accompany two standout looks—Pucci’s sheer black cutout dress for Leslie and, for Zoe, a royal blue frock by Preen—at awards season honors these past two weeks.
With its elegant, curvilinear sides and slightly rounded point toe, the Elba is a stylist’s dream—its classic shape makes it easy to pair with anything from a Jil Sander peplum skirt to racer-striped Rag & Bone jeans.
Plus, the simplicity of the Elba’s silhouette allows for more risk-taking for its surface; I’d love to see a fall-winter version in oxblood crushed velvet or a turquoise-tone lizard skin for resort.
After a few more seasons, could the Elba join the hallowed ranks of Chanel ballet flats, the Brian Atwood ‘Maniac’ pumps and Manolo Blahnik’s BB heels?
