Cate Blanchett In Antonio Berardi – ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ World Premiere

I was very excited to see Cate Blanchett back on the red carpet this evening in Wellington, New Zealand for the world premiere of ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’.

Her first look of this promo tour was an Antonio Berardi Resort 2013 gown.

The tri-colour look has a lot of elements, with the sheer red top with a fitted bustier, white corset-like centre and long black crepe skirt, but Queen Cate manages to pull it off.

Simple styling was the key to making this look work, so Cate added a beaded bracelet, stud earrings and Roger Vivier ‘Prismick’ sandals to her look.

Her short blonde bob was accented with a silver clip to provide the finishing touch.

What a way to kick start the campaign. I hope she continues to opt for bold looks like this throughout the tour. Fingers crossed.

    Lovely dress, very fresh.

  4. Noemi (WBiS) November 30, 2012 at 16:33 #

Great dress, the best choice she made in a while for me.

  5. Fatima November 30, 2012 at 00:50 #

Love everything that she wears, because of the way she carry the clothes, with such style and elegance. She is sublime.

  6. CreoleLady November 30, 2012 at 00:24 #

This is the third time I’ve come back. This look was a grower, not sure I liked it at first. Although I hoped for Galadriel, thoroughly modern Cate has won me over. Love this look (and the fab Viviers on her feet).

  7. Rosario November 29, 2012 at 22:07 #

I am wowed. A BDOTW contender for me.

  8. Violeta November 29, 2012 at 22:00 #

Great dress, CB looks beautiful in it and her Roger Vivier sandals are gorgeous.

  9. DD November 29, 2012 at 21:55 #

Cate makes the dress come to live. I’m super excited about this promo tour.

  10. Jade November 29, 2012 at 21:51 #

She looks amazing from head to toe. BDOTW.

  11. Alina November 29, 2012 at 15:25 #

I don’t like this at all. It’s been a while since she last wowed me.

  12. Pene November 29, 2012 at 12:28 #

how she manages to make weired outfits look fashionable i’ll never understand

  13. jsshan November 29, 2012 at 08:31 #

Cate is charming in this dress. although it looks like casual wearing.

  14. jj November 29, 2012 at 07:28 #

I love Cate but this dress does nothing to me. It looks like she is just a mere passerby and not Queen Cate!

  15. Rebecca Z November 29, 2012 at 04:11 #

Disappointed. Don’t like the dress and don’t like the hair. Agree it might have been better buttoned.

  16. Rash November 29, 2012 at 04:09 #

Wow, she has a penchant to pick up any piece and make it work! She looks gorgeous

  17. Kimberly November 29, 2012 at 03:47 #

Beautiful. I like a lot the dress on her, she looks very stylish but also comfortable, like she is not trying too hard, it is just natural.

  18. GGG November 29, 2012 at 03:44 #

Chic, bold… divine. As always. I love her!

  19. pipsqueak November 29, 2012 at 03:42 #

Love this fresh look. Young w/o looking try-hard. I must say that she hasn’t looked so good for a while. It’s nice to see this feminine side again. In recent appearances, she often opted for old men’s or old ladies’ clothes.

  20. Chloe November 29, 2012 at 03:18 #

BDOTW for me. Queen Cate looks fantastic and almost ethereal in this dress.

  21. Parvati November 29, 2012 at 03:18 #

All hail Quuen Cate! She went big, bold, and she looks. Beautiful. I also love how her hair doesn’t interfere with the dress. Smashing dress, smashing styling. Today has been great as far as Style goes!

  22. JEANE WESTIN November 29, 2012 at 03:12 #

The dress is very risky and bold, but she totally works the hell out of it. It’s great to see her back to her best.

  23. SISI November 29, 2012 at 03:10 #

So gorgeous and effortless, that she made me put a comment on your web. Cate looks divine as usual, but that is natural in her. Totally BDOTW, it is a great way to start this promo tour,

  24. mary November 29, 2012 at 03:05 #

I love the dress and the way she style it a lot. I thnk she looks lovely. BDOTW for sure. I love it.

  25. EmmaWoodhouse November 29, 2012 at 02:41 #

WE ARE NOT WORTHY. Such a difficult look to pull off but she looks so gorgeous in it. I am SO excited for this promo tour! 🙂 🙂 🙂

  26. Pedro November 28, 2012 at 23:23 #

    Queen Cate looks amazing!

  27. Prisca November 28, 2012 at 22:46 #

She looks so refreshing and gorgeous even with that Margot Tennanbum hairstyle. BDOFTW-worthy.

  28. Amy November 28, 2012 at 21:37 #

sorry the dress is a miss for me which is weird because I worship Antonio Berardi

  29. abasss November 28, 2012 at 21:05 #

Her hair makes her look like Briony from Atonement. I like the dress though.

  30. Susan November 28, 2012 at 20:45 #

Very different – I like it.

  31. Aline November 28, 2012 at 20:15 #

I love it from the neck down. The dress looks great on her and I actually like the fact she didn’t button it all the way up. But I don’t like her hair at all, it looks silly, tbh.

  32. Tatiana November 28, 2012 at 17:37 #

I would not normally like a dress like this, but the way that it looks on her is very pretty and interesting that she has made me like it a lot. But I am a little biased since I love everything this women wears. She can not do wrong on my eyes.

  33. Magdalena. November 28, 2012 at 17:30 #

A bit underwhelming, to be honest.

  34. shap_half November 28, 2012 at 17:01 #

She looks bold, but not amazing. Disappointed over here.

    • Agathe November 29, 2012 at 13:41 #

      Totally agree.
      Queen Cate, we miss you!

  35. Hannah November 28, 2012 at 16:59 #

She looks gorgeous, but Ican’t help but be slightly underwhelmed. Cate usually elivers magic when she wears gowns, but I feel like anyone could have worn this. I am expecting more at the hopefully many more premieres she will be attending!

  36. Leti November 28, 2012 at 16:54 #

Love this! One of her best looks in recent memory. She looks so young and fresh!

  37. Sara November 28, 2012 at 16:13 #

I feel like this is the first look I’ve loved of hers in years.

  38. amanda November 28, 2012 at 15:15 #

    SHE LOOKS INCREDIBLE!

  39. fromchi-town November 28, 2012 at 15:11 #

Its not my fav look of hers. I like the dress on her, though its not her best effort. The hair is what I have a major problem with. Don’t like it at all.

  40. chryssa November 28, 2012 at 14:30 #

i just love her style…oh!the way she carries herself…always elegant!

  41. Christine November 28, 2012 at 14:17 #

Glad to see her style mojo back. Love this look!

  42. Anne November 28, 2012 at 13:56 #

I prefer the dress buttoned-up as seen on the model. I usually love Cate, but the Goody hair barrette is not good.

    • dee November 28, 2012 at 14:25 #

Those are my same issues with this look. Interesting dress but the hair barrette and the unbuttoned top ruins this for me.

      • Yeliz November 28, 2012 at 22:34 #

“Interesting dress but the hair barrette and the unbuttoned top ruins this for me.” I totally agree.

  43. Ramsay November 28, 2012 at 13:50 #

Oh the audacity! Ms Blanchett steals the day

  44. Jess2 November 28, 2012 at 13:21 #

Beautiful and fresh! I really love this look and am also very excited for this tour, and the movie 🙂

  45. noo November 28, 2012 at 13:19 #

I’m probably in the minority here but I disliked the dress in the presentation and I like it even less on Cate. I appreciate her outside the box thinking but she has done that in the past with much better results.

    • Mick November 28, 2012 at 13:53 #

Totally agreed. I don’t love the dress, not even on Cate the Great. Also not a fan of the Margot Tenenbaum hairstyle with the clip.

      • roxy November 28, 2012 at 13:57 #

        +1

        • Carolina November 28, 2012 at 14:15 #

I just don’t like the dress. Actually, it’s rather ugly and looks as if it’s unfinished and the undershirt is hanging out. Not her best look by a long shot.

      • Taksi November 30, 2012 at 02:27 #

The whole look seems very 90s. From far away it looks like a button-down crop top with a tank top underneath.

    • Marybeth November 28, 2012 at 15:24 #

I’m with you. The dress itself is awful.
Boldness is a fashion virtue if, and only if, it is aesthetically pleasing.
And I don’t much care for the hairstyle on anyone over the age of 12.

I do think the color of the top is wonderfully flattering to Cate though and her make-up is perfect.

  46. Hermoine November 28, 2012 at 13:01 #

I love it!!!! Now this is how to start off a red carpet campaign. All hail to the General!

    • SilentVisitor November 28, 2012 at 23:27 #

I agree with you….I think she looks stunning………..

  47. Serena November 28, 2012 at 13:00 #

    Stunning!!!! BDOTW!!!!

  48. Martin November 28, 2012 at 12:55 #

Love it. There’s a freshness, youthfulness and energy to this look that I find really appealing. Love the hair and makeup as well, which makes her look way younger than her 43 years. This is a BDOTW nominee for me.

  49. Charlotte November 28, 2012 at 12:51 #

I like it ! She is beautiful and it’s different of what we usually see on the red carpet !

  50. J November 28, 2012 at 12:46 #

Just nitpicking here, but the premiere was in Wellington, not Auckland.
