I found myself pleasantly surprised by Christina Aguilera, who took to the red carpet at the 2012 American Music Awards on Sunday evening.
I expected an ill-fitting dress, spandex and a wardrobe malfunction, but she looked amazing wearing a Pamella Roland gown.
Her lavender ombre silk-chiffon halter gown was styled with Jimmy Choo ‘Sugar’ peep-toes, a glitter box clutch which matched her gown, and an armful of diamond-encrusted bracelets.
A sleek bob, smoky eyes and nude glossy lips completed her look.
Sexy without the vulgarity and clown makeup – who knew Christina could pull this off?

Love it!! hair and makeup are fantastic. Great look all over.
+1 could have gone so wrong, but worked.
I don’t like this look too much. The tan/hair isn’t working for me.
I agree. The hair, the make-up and the tan, it’s too much ! Toot fake !
Shame about the fake-tan award?
Love everything about this look, hair, makeup are perfect.
Also liked Stacy Keibler, hope you show her.
she is three posts down http://www.redcarpet-fashionawards.com/2012/11/19/stacy-keibler-in-collette-dinnigan-2012-american-music-awards/
I really can’t cope with that awful hair. Is that her natural hair or is it a wig? I can’t even tell the difference. The exaggerated tan is also very bad. I know all the elements make this look work as it should, however I don’t like it at all.
this is the classiest and best that Christina has looked in forever. there’s too much bling bling + tan for my taste, but still its a thumbs up for me
I agree. She’s dress much more flattering for her weight.

Too much tan and I am not liking this dress.
I agree. This looks still tacky to me.
The tan unfortunately cheapens the whole look… She’s almost orange o.O But it is true it’s much better than what she usually wears.
Love the ombre and the clutch, but even thought she looks a LOT better than usual this still comes off tacky in my book. I think it’s the wig-like hair, the fake tan, the over done bling, and the bathing suit neckline.

I agree with everyone before me (I will provide a summary):
This look is an improvement from her usual tacky, tasteless looks.
However, Christina’s orange tan, platinum blonde hair wig thing, bling and packed on makeup make this look still a bit tacky, even if the dress is lovely.
ITA!
Ditto
Fake tan and bleached hair make it look very cheap…and she looks couple of decades older than she is! Now working for me at all
The dress shows off her curves well but the vulgarity is still there – it´s in that fake tan, contrasting bleached hair, tacky eye makeup with matching lavender eye shadow, and Christina´s overall presence. So it´s still thumbs down from me.
ITA and it’s a shame
i agree. it seems like she will always be trashy in some way and she likes it that way
I hate everything about this looks, the tan looks terrible!
Actually she looks like a fat drag queen… i miss 2006 for Xtina! She was stunning
Please don’t use such degrading words to describe a woman who is not a sure zero
Its really offensive
Actually ,many drag queens look better than her here. she looks totally gross.

I agree with FC. Comments on size are completely inappropriate. This is a website about fashion. If something is ill-fitting that’s one thing, but Christina’s dress fits her perfectly. Her size should not be a factor worthy of comment in any way.
Much better than she usually looks. Sexy but not slutty. Too bad about the fake tan and wig.
I agree with everyone about the bad hair and tan. But overall it`s a great look for Christina, best that she has looked in a long time.
+1. While it may not be a winner for others, this is big improvement for her. I hope its a start for even better things to come. She is hugely talented and needs to find more confidence in her natural beauty – which she has alot of!
the tan takes away from all the good things about this look.
? I am in a minority here.. she looks great.. not vulgar at all
I am surprised, and pleasantly so. I too was expecting something really bad but this is not a terrible look. Like many above, I do think the tan is overdone but the dress is very lovely on her and I really like her shoe choice. I hope she continues to improve.
I still see the vulgarity and the clown makeup.
I fail to see anything good about this. I mean the dress isn’t bad but combined with orange skin, platinum blond hair and the makeup you have the recipe for a red carpet fail. She needs to lay off the tan or change the hair color, they don’t go together anymore.
The tan is too much. The makeup looks almost theatrical, way too much cheek contour. The dress is a vast improvement over her usual. I don’t mind the hair so much, I think the too orange tan makes it look worse than it actually is. Overall this is an improvement for her, but does not reach the level of classy or tasteful.
Best dressed of the night to me. The dress hugs her figure so well and shows that a beautiful proud woman does not need to be stick thin. I’m so sick of people saying bad things about her because she’s a fuller figured girl now. This reminds me of her Grammy 2007 look that was also amazing, the colours and the make up. Also love her with short hair.
I was surprised to read your reaction to this look. Personally the biggest turn off for me is that orange tan, then mixed with thick makeup. Theres also the dress that makes her look top heavy and clashes with the heavy tan. Eww
considering what she usually wears, this for me is a huge improvement
Personally, I don’t really like this look. The hair, the tan, the jewels and the top half of the dress (especially the straps) bother me. I think she’d look better if the dress was strapless, she’d gone for an updo, less jewels and less tan. But at the same time I agree with FC, this is one of the best she has looked for quite some time and I hope she is moving towards a better (style-wise) direction. People need to understand there are 2 ways of looking at the glass: half empty or half full.
On a side note, I think people should choose their words more carefully. Differences in opinion and criticisms are at times inherent, but the use of such vulgar language is a choice.
“On a side note, I think people should choose their words more carefully. Differences in opinion and criticisms are at times inherent, but the use of such vulgar language is a choice.”
That was very well said and great thought.
Love everything excluding the (wig?) hair.
Too many times when Hollywood stars gain weight they and their stylists just don’t seem to know what to do with this body, except squeezing them into something too tight or covering it all up in something tent-like and black. Kudos to Christina and whoever dressed her for finding something actually fitting, complimenting and very pretty. If only the hair…
This is much improved but still on the tacky level. I wish she would look like she did in Burlesque, her clothes/hair/makeup was gorgeous. The Versace she wore to the following Golden Globes was also stunning and her hair/makeup was flawless too.
Are we all looking at the same image? This is one of X-tina’s worst looks ever. So unflattering and I would definitely call that clown makeup
I think she is still stuck in her Xtina days. She doesn’t seem to understand her body shape. There are so many other styles that perfectly complements her fuller figure. This is HORRIBLE. The neckline especially looks so cheap and don’t even get me started on her wig. Sigh.
I hate the purple eye shadow and the wig but ya she is looking better than she usually does.
i feel like she is yet to know how to dress her body or may be even accept it . Queen Latifa’s stylist would be a great help to her
I like this dress…but Xtina looks like a porn star here even tho the overall look is not vulgar.
I don’t think the dress is a problem. Yes, I did confuse her with Coco, but I think that was due to her horrible wig and make upm and tan for that matter.
