Kate Waterhouse was out on the circuit again today for the VRC Oaks Club Luncheon held at the Crown Palladium in Melbourne, Australia, earlier today.
The fashion editor wore an Ellery Resort 2012 dress on this occasion.
You’d be forgiven if you thought this oxblood high-neck dress with oversized sleeves was by Lanvin.
I think I would have to question Kate’s credentials once again; I mean, who would wear a dress with such voluminous shoulders with their hair down?
Surely a tight bun or even a ponytail was required with this look.
Jumping on the floral garland headpiece trend which has surprisingly taken off in the last two days, I have to say her choice of headwear, once again, looks ridiculous.
What should be coming naturally for a fashion editor is feeling forced and coming across like she’s trying too hard, à la Lara Bingle, which is a huge disappointment considering she is known for having impeccable style.
Black Ferragamo lace-up sandals completed her look.

I’ve never really liked Kate’s style. She is also a terrible journalist, and as a style editor…I’ve never really got it.
She always looks like she is trying to hard and I completely agree about the hair. It was the first thing I thought.
It’s always a horrible thing to say, but I honestly think the only reason she ever got the job was because of her name.
I’ve always thought it was because of her name, she really is a terrible journalist. I’m glad someone agrees, it always comes across as spite or jealousy, but its true!
100% agree with both of you. That said, she is the fashion editor of the sun-herald. Not exactly a fashion publication, is it? The most I’ve ever seen her name on is that ‘Date with Kate’ celebrity interview column.
I’ve never found her to have great personal style – just expensive clothing.
You are so right ladies! I agree on all points and I really dislike this look.

Totally agree. I can’t recall a single outfit of hers that I have actually liked. Always nice to see nepotism at work…
Also, I hate those damn flower garland headpieces! FC is so right, they look ridiculous! Of all the lovely millinery options out there why do people keep choosing these things? WHY?!
love the shoes!
agree with you FC, the lookbook version with the hair pulled back sans odd headpiece makes the dress stand out. unfortunately in Kate I find it costumey
for a fashion editor she sure does look a hot mess.
+1 She almost looks like a clown. What a pity.

I agree. They need to step up their a game just a bit. You know being in the know about fashion and all
Terrible.
Like the shoes, but the rest looks ridiculous.
When I crop out the head I really like it but with the garland she just looks like a lame Anna Della Russo imitator.
I blame Lana Del Rey for the “flower hair” style. Only Frida Kahlo can pull it off.
Immediately though of Lanvin…but frankly, my question was not limited to “Why would you wear your hair down with a dress with such voluminous shoulders?” it was “Why would you wear a dress with such voluminous shoulders AT ALL?” I love the rich color but the it’s like a satin sack with floaties attached. The wreath only adds to the ridiculousness. Shoes are the only good here.
