Carina Lau attended the 120th Vogue Anniversary celebration in Beijing, China, last night.
The Asian actress wore a Giambattista Valli Fall 2011 Couture gown.
I have a feeling Carina was inspired by Sarah Jessica Parker, as she showcased the white cape on her black gown in a similar fashion to SJP when she wore a similar gown with a cape last year.
Apart from the colour, Carina’s gown differs as hers has an ornate bronze “crab” sculpture necklace.
This isn’t an easy look to pull off, but the actress does so with a lot of charisma.
Do you agree?

love this.
This kind of tricky gown works well on stage on the model. On Carina it just looks silly and costumey.
I love the gown on the runway – I don’t like it on Carina with that pause like Cristo Redentor – another waste of a good dress…
Agree Joan Smalls makes it work so well
+1
it’s Fall 2011..not spring 2012..and i dont think she was inspired by Sarah Jessica Parker..she just copied the runway styling..so did Sarah Jessica Parker
I think she pulled it off.
I agree.
I’m getting a strong Charlize-Theron-in-Snow-White-and-the-Huntsman vibe from this…
She would if she wasn’t posing like Bela Lugosi!
She looks good, but I don’t love it.
I’m in the fan camp- she kept the fun, drama and elegance from the runway.
No she doesn’t pull it off, sorry. Gesture is too theatrical and try hard, it doesn’t look effortless, and dress on her feels too costumey, I almost want gothic makeup and its a couture Halloween look
Morticia’s wedding gown…
I love this look, but not the pose.
It looks pretty cool, the pose is overdoing it a bit. I like the touch of gold but the crab design creeps me out.
One cannot wear a cape, pose like that and complain that people find it costumey.
