Diane Kruger In Chanel – Chanel’s Fine Jewelry 80th Anniversary Celebration

The first name on any Chanel event guest list, I’m sure, is Diane Kruger.

She joined Blake Lively on the red carpet at the celebration of Chanel Fine Jewelry’s 80th anniversary of the ‘Bijoux De Diamants’ collection created by Gabrielle Chanel in New York City yesterday evening.

Not surprisingly, she had first dibs on the Chanel Spring 2013 collection, as she often does, but I can’t say I’m particularly enamoured by this look.

Firstly the dress appears to be a tad too tight, squishing her twins. Secondly the strapless blue-and-black knee-length dress isn’t that exciting, or interesting.

But that may be down to Diane’s styling, because for once the model outdoes her on that score.

Diane selected a yellow satin clutch and black Christian Louboutin ‘Pigalle’ pumps.

Does this look work for you?

had so much potential if it was a better fit and if she had better shoes, the dress and clutch together I really like. Better than Blake tho if you ask me.

  2. Mick October 10, 2012 at 10:55 #

Definitely not her best look, the fit is not flattering. I like the blue dress/yellow clutch combo, the choice of shoes not so much

    • Yeliz October 10, 2012 at 21:24 #

I agree about everything you said. Silver strappy sandals would have been preferred.

  3. Alina October 10, 2012 at 10:57 #

    I’m disappointed.

    • EmmaWoodhouse October 11, 2012 at 22:00 #

Me too. I like blue and yellow as a combo, but this dress is ugly, shapeless, and unworthy of being called fashion. Plus, what is with those shoes? Oh well, even Diane has her off days. (Closes eyes and remembers Cannes)

  4. Carmen October 10, 2012 at 10:59 #

This dress has the same shape as a sack, alongside the accessories (minus the clutch) it doesn’t work for me

  5. Joy October 10, 2012 at 11:03 #

I really hate to say thing about something that is Chanel, but the shape reminds me of a towel wrap or cover-up thingy. Definitely not Chanel or Diane’s finest fashion moment.

    • Moxie October 10, 2012 at 14:41 #

Couldn’t agree more. It is a sparkly towel wrap with boring black pumps. The yellow purse is cute, but the rest of the outfit is unfortunate.

  6. LeeAnn October 10, 2012 at 11:32 #

Even Diane couldn’t pull this look off. I think the jewellry the model is wearing helps detract from the hideous dress.

  7. Nat October 10, 2012 at 12:02 #

Terrible dress and the fit is all wrong: too tight and it sits too low.
The (lack of) shape doesn’t help either: it looks like a very fancy towel that she just wrapped around her body.

  8. Molly October 10, 2012 at 12:05 #

Looks like a post-shower bath towel on both Diane and the model. Don’t think even the best styling or the gorgeous fabric could save this under any condition.

      LOL

  9. TeuntjeVDW October 10, 2012 at 12:20 #

This is not my favorite look of Diane Kruger!

I’m officially over Chanel. I don’t remember the last runway I enjoyed. I feel Karl, or his ghost designer team, just make overly fussy, unflattering clothes. Some pieces are good, and you can see that the quality and the workmanship put behind the garments is great, but the overall design and concept is poor, imo. And the shoes… chanel shoes are a mess.
I’m going to say it softly because I know Karl has a lot of die hard supporters jeje, but I think that it’s about time Chanel hired a new designer that brought new air.

    • itsmecq October 10, 2012 at 16:03 #

totally, Karl should take a vacation or sth. This collection r very boring, i cant get the point.

I think this needs a necklace and better shoes. But does anyone else think this is going to ignite those pregnancy rumors.

    • Fashion Critic October 10, 2012 at 13:51 #

I think she looks pregnant, I’m glad someone else said it first

    • Hannah October 10, 2012 at 21:43 #

ITA. I thoght it a bit with her last look, but definitely with this one. Especially the photos that are a bit to the side.

  12. dee October 10, 2012 at 14:01 #

The dress is terrible to begin with. I like her hair, makeup and clutch.

  13. Sonya October 10, 2012 at 14:02 #

Is it not, essentially, the mosaic tiles of a bathroom stuck to a towel that has then been wrapped around the lass?

  14. rebecca o October 10, 2012 at 14:11 #

It looks like she’s wearing bathroom tiles.

  15. Amy October 10, 2012 at 14:21 #

I LOVE the fabric but the shape makes it look like she is wrapped in a towel.Anyway still love Diane

  16. Lily October 10, 2012 at 14:43 #

Something is wrong with this look.
He needs more interesting shoes,or another clutch.Or both.
she definitely had to wear a necklace

  17. Christine October 10, 2012 at 14:49 #

    Not a great look.

  18. rafael October 10, 2012 at 15:12 #

I Love It, she looks AMAZING. I think the dress is interesting enough; is not a typical/classic chanel dress and I love the styling too. It’s modern, fresh and not predictable. FABOULOUS as always… PERFECTION

  19. Rebecca Z October 10, 2012 at 16:11 #

If only she had pulled it up–could have worked. I like the concept of the dress, but it just doesn’t quite work.

  20. Noemi October 10, 2012 at 17:52 #

Without praise or blame, for me. But… if Diane Kruger, the Queen of style doesn’t look amazing at a Chanel event… who can? Rose Byrne was definitely the best. Maybe this dress could be great with better accessories.

  21. Nat39 October 10, 2012 at 18:05 #

Bad fit and even worse styling. Big fail in my book.

  22. Pati October 10, 2012 at 19:03 #

I am usually a huge fan of Diane. Not so much on this occasion. I like that she went for a yellow clutch, but sadly that’s the only thing I like about this look. The dress is ugly, and the fit is even worse. And don’t even get me started on the shoes.. She can do so much better than this…

  23. Wizzer October 10, 2012 at 19:23 #

    Everyone looked bad this night!
    Chanel Fail

  24. Hannah October 10, 2012 at 20:44 #

The dress was gonna be a lose-lose situations either way, have it this tight – too much cleavage, wear ti looser – it falls down.
Her clutch is Chanel, I believe resort 2012.

  25. Jones19 October 10, 2012 at 20:54 #

This is a first, I like the model’s look a lot better.

  26. lou October 11, 2012 at 01:04 #

Nope-it just looks like a glitzy bath towel!

  27. JJ October 11, 2012 at 14:13 #

Well, to her credit, NOBODY looked that great at this event. It just tells me that Chanel is no longer suitable for any woman that is not 5’10 and
-100 lbs. This dress does NOTHING for her.

  28. Parvati October 11, 2012 at 16:32 #

I actually like this look. I would only change the size of the dress and the shoes, as they are quite boring.
