If you are pining for Zhang Ziyi’s princessy red-carpet looks, I regret to inform you that she’s still opting for edgier looks.
The Asian actress was in Beijing yesterday promoting her new project ‘Dangerous Liaisons’ wearing a Mugler Fall 2012 dress.
Her cream-and-white bold-shouldered dress with a sculptural peplum isn’t something we would’ve pictured her wearing a year ago, but this new Zhang is all about experimenting on the red carpet.
I have to say I really enjoy seeing what she’s going to wear next.
Those Christian Louboutin ‘Daffodile’ pumps continue to be her favourite choice of footwear, much like Fan Bingbing, but hopefully this fad will end soon. The shoes and the poor hemming of the skirt were the only disappointing things about this look.
Cindy Chao jewels, a neat bun and flawless makeup completed her look.
BDOTW worthy?

Poor hemming popped at me even before I noticed those pumps. Otherwise it’s a great look for her, a nice change from princessy.
In order for a look to be BDOTW it must be head to toe perfection, and Zhang’s look is not, as her footwear is gross and the hem isn’t clean-lined like the runway.
I completely agree.

Agree!
A really nice change and more avant-garde outfit.
From the front those shoes look like horses’ hooves.
thk you for that awesome descrition. You are right. she’s otherwise breathtaking.
This is cool. It’s so Blade Runner. I like her choice of cuff.
I really like this look!
I’m biased. She’s flawless in my book.
I like the original length better, and the hemming’s bad – but the profile for this look is amazing. It’s a wonderful, architectural look, clean and perfectly suited to her figure.
This is definitely a BDOTW! Zhang never quits amazing me, she’s so stunning and stylish!
GREAT DRESS, horrible shoes!!!
seriously why can’t celebs put down those ugly stripper platforms?
Not BDOTW worthy, for me, I would have liked it with a perfect hem and without the upper part of the dress. It could be a great look, it isn’t.
The dress was cool on the runway (and made met think of Tilda) but on Zhang it is rather comical. Combine that with the puffy, sloppy hem and those clodhoppers and we have a decidedly un-BDOTW-worthy look.
