Beauty Trend Spotting: The Summery Coral Lip

With summer at its peak, the time is ripe to heat things up on the lipstick front, and so the nude, neutral lip is giving way to a deliciously seasonal coral hue – perfect for complementing a sun-kissed glow.

“Coral embodies that just-back-from-the-beach look,” says Chanel makeup artist Rachel Goodwin, whose clients include Emma Stone and Jennifer Lawrence. “It makes you look like you have just been on a summer vacation.”

Not quite pink, not quite orange, this is a shade that perfectly offsets bronzed or pale skin and brightens up the face like no other.

Dark and olive complexions look great in shades with a tangerine base while paler, fairer skin suits shades with salmon undertones.

And while you might think that redheads are a bad fit for the trend, Rachel says that pure, warm peachy shades look great.

But keep the rest of your makeup minimal: tinted moisturizer, a few coats of black mascara and defined brows are all you need to go with a sheer coral lip. For brighter, richer textures add a sweep of light bronzer.
