One of the many runway trends from the Spring 2012 collections was the use of polka dots, large and small. We saw them at Luca Luca, Adam, Suno and Tory Burch.
Hollywood stars have gone dotty for the trend as it has been popping up on the streets of LA and New York.
Jessica Alba wore a Lovers + Friends polka-dot top with slouchy boyish Current/Elliott chinos for playtime in the park with her kids.
Katie Holmes casually styled her halter polka-dot top with fitted jeans. Miley Cyrus gave the feminine trend an edge with her biker boots and Keira Knightley added retro red shorts to her black polka-dot blouse.
I love how pretty and feminine polka dots are – they form a simple yet classic print that will remain in your closet for years, plus they’re much less overwhelming than a large floral or graphic print.

I love polka-dots. Esp. 50s style full-skirted dresses and skirts. Something so whimsical, yet elegant about this print.
p.s. I have one question – does anyone know when the top-knot hairstyle will finally die out? I’m just seriously tired of it already. >.<
I find your considerations most interesting since I have noticed a dramatic drop on polka dot accessories — one or two seasons ago net-a-porter was flooded with polka dot shoes and bags. Or maybe it was just me noticing them more at that time. The fact of the matter is, I was recently trying to build a look sustained solely by polka dots — an arbitrary exercise — and end up having to make concessions (like interpreting studs as dots, for instance). Or maybe the dots are back to clothing and left the bag arena.
Polka dots first started appearing on common clothes in the 1800s, mostly on swimming costumes but really became popular after being sported by Minnie Mouse in ‘Steamboat Willie’ in 1928
