Cate Blanchett attended the ‘Uncle Vanya’ cast photocall in New York City on Saturday afternoon.
The Australian actress donned a Givenchy Resort 2013 dress.
Cate can usually pull off trick pieces like this with total ease, but there is something about this look that isn’t quite working for me on this occasion.
The model worked this dress with a pencil skirt, flared elbow-length sleeves and a geometric bodice with a paisley printed scarf-like detailing to perfection.
Maybe it’s the addition of Cate’s overly fussy Roger Vivier ‘Cloud’ black lace-up open-toe booties which sent me over the edge.
A side-parted hairstyle and natural-looking makeup completed the look.

She can be classic or edge with so much ease! amazing.
I totally agree–the shoes are way too heavy and complicated. But the dress doesn’t seem to fit Cate very well–the shadows on the wall behind her aren’t helping.
Unflattering neckline, too
I guess the problem is just the posing and the background.
DEFINITELY not her strongest look. She looks so tired… and the outfit.. ugly! Those shoes make her lean legs look chunky.

If you remove the absurd, discordant paisley scarf, the dress is wonderful on the model. So I think the main problem with Cate’s look is the unfortunate choice of high clunky shoes. UGH!
This is really drab. Hideous unflattering shoe choice aside, she is a bit too mature to pull off this quirky dress, looks very drab on her. Of course, the younger model does it effortlessly.
The shoes and silhouette are calling a football player to mind.

The dress is a disaster in itself (although the model wears it well), but the addition of the shoes makes it even worse. I saw the shoes on Shoerazzi and they are lovely. They just belong with a totally different outfit.
I love Cate, I really do, but this look is a big miss for me.
