Tuesday night the lovely Kate Beckinsale once again appeared on ‘The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.’
The ‘Total Recall’ star went with understated elegance for her on-air look, choosing an Elie Saab dress from the 2012 Pre-Fall collection.
When done correctly, a one shoulder dress can provide just the right amount of intrigue, which a weathered designer like Saab is certainly capable of. The dress itself fit Beckinsale like a glove, but it was her hair and shoes that I feel didn’t do the frock justice.
Although Beckinsale looks beautiful with large, loose curls, wearing her hair over the revealed shoulder makes the dress appear awkward and incomplete. A look like this begs for an updo, which would show off the silhouette of the dress.
While I appreciate the elegance of simplicity, a higher shoe with a small amount of embellishment would have amped up the entire ensemble and made the knee-length hemline more flattering.
There is nothing agregiously wrong with Beckinsale’s ‘Tonight Show’ choices, but I believe that the actress is certainly capable of more.
Do you think this is one of Kate Beckinsale’s better looks? Or were you hoping for something with a little more style know-how?

I have to say I disagree. I think the choices were right all around. She always looks a bit over-dressed for my liking, but even so, I do find this entire ensemble works.
I think she could have styled this dress better.
I like this look.
I don’t mind the hair, but I think the look would have been much improved with some interesting sandals.
I agree with you, Jessica.
FC, I think you hit the nail on the head. Better shoes and an updo. Kate usually fails in the shoe department though, so it’s really no surpise…
I think if she did an updo, it would be too formal for a talk show so I’m glad she put her hair down. In a way, her hair balanced out her long sleeve.
I agree a higher shoe would’ve been a better choice for the length of her dress, but this isn’t bad.
The dress is perfect on her and I also like her hair, but I agree on the shoes.
Agree, neither hair nor shoes work here.
I like the dress, though I think that the ruffle lay better on the model. But, it’s a pet peeve of mine to wear a one-shoulder dress with hair covering the bare shoulder and it seems that most of us agree that the shoes were a fail.
