Zooey Deschanel took to the red carpet at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Hollywood yesterday evening as one of the presenters for the 2012 ESPY Awards.
I always hold my breath when scrolling down any picture of Zooey.
Retro hair – good.
Dress – good.
Accessories – good.
Tights – No. YES. *breathes out*
On this occasion the ‘New Girl’ actress sparkles wearing an Oscar de la Renta gold-and-silver sequined knee-length dress.
I love the pop of red via her red patent belt and nail colour. You can usually rely on Zooey for a quirky touch.
Her accessories included a gold-and-silver Edie Parker confetti clutch, gold Sergio Rossi ‘Cachet’ pumps and Dana Rebecca Designs ‘Agnes Fortune’ earrings.
This would’ve been perfect for me with the addition of gold strappy sandals.
Rose-pink lips and a black Alice band completed her look.

So far, this is my favorite look from this event.
I don’t like her styling at all. The headband is so out of place and I don’t like the rest of her styling, either. The dress without the belt is the only good thing here.
She looks great here. I love the dress and the pop of colour via the belt makes the look even better!
I was on the fence about the styling until I looked at the other pictures on Getty. There is one full length view from the side in particular which sold me. The dress fit like a dream. I even loved the pumps in that shot.
I think she looks spectacular. I love the red belt and agree with CreoleLady about the shoes–didn’t love them until I say the side shot and then they make perfect sense with her look. I would put this up for BDOTW.
She had me at the sparkly dress. And then the belt.
The styling’s a little off for me, as I think both the belt and the headband are too casual, but I think this is an overall improvement. It’s nice to see her not wearing tights! I also like to see her wearing something so sleek. I would have loved to see her let go a little bit more of the sweetness and vamp it up a bit more, perhaps with a winged eye.
I like this look, minus the belt. However, on Zooey it works.

yay from me. I think this is her best look ever. She looks cute and quirky as usual, but thank God she doesn’t wear those tights. And the dress suits her personality, quirkiness and sweetness.
Bad styling – the accessories are a not suited for this dress and the belt is way too bright it looks like it belongs on a preteen. Imo, she should have gone with strappy sandals, a red clutch (deeper red – like maroon) and a gold skinny belt.

I think she’s lovely and I’m always inclined to give her extra credit for not wearing tights, but…
The headband and belt just don’t work with this sequined dress.
Looking cutesy is Zooey’s thing, I know, but there comes a time when a woman over 30 should stop dressing like a preteen. I do want her to be her own quirky self, but I’d like to see her transition into a somewhat more mature style.

I love hair accessories, but this headband is totally out of place here. Too casual! It looks like what you wear to wash your face/take your make up off.

You gotta be kidding me! She looks so cheap! Maybe without the hairband and belt this would be okay but this looks like forever 21…5 years ago maybe? This is dated and not in a retro way, unflattering, and downright all over the place.
