Monica Brown was one of the many performers who paid tribute to the late Whitney Houston at the 2012 BET Awards yesterday evening.
Her emotional rendition of Whitney’s gospel classic ‘I Love The Lord’ even had Soulja Boy shedding a tear.
Monica performed her tribute wearing an Alexander McQueen Spring 2010 dress from the ‘Plato Atlantis’ collection; the last produced by the late designer.
As a long-time fan of Alexander McQueen it’s not a surprise that she opted to wear this dress featuring a kaleidoscopic snakeskin print, v-neck and cap sleeves.
What is a surprise is to see this look as a rise-and-fall gown, as only mini dresses were presented in this print.
Opting to keep the same hairstyle she wore on the red carpet, she added nude pumps to her look.

This look isn’t working for me, the fabric is drowning her petite frame. I wish she’d kept it short like it was presented on the runway… something tells me Solange Knowles would have pulled this same dress off with better success.
I agree.
Although she looks good, I am not liking the modified version. I prefer the runway styling too.
+1
I agree.
The runway short version is too short but the structure of the dress is adorable, and it doesn´t translate on Monica. The footwear could´ve been more inspiring.
Overall, the dress just sits awkwardly on her, giving her an unflattering wide-waisted silhouette.
I don’t like this dress. It seems too overwhelm her.
I think it’s a knockoff!
That is highly unlikely
I actually agree. The print is…. off. Most of McQueen’s printed dresses appeared to be mirror images, while the print on this dress is more randomized.
+1
That dress is all kinds of wearing her.
The print is nice while its symmetrical. Her version is not symmetrical (why????), its just a mess.
this is quite the bastardized version of the original.. the digital print is not symmetrical and looks like a big mess.
kudos to monica for trying but this dress is awful and really does not reflect the beauty of this collection
No, just no!! I would like to see this dress as it appears on the runway – I don’t like the pattern worn by Monica and I also prefer the shape of the runway version.
the dress looks terrible in these photos, but it actually looked quite amazing on stage during the performance itself.
i mean, from what i could tell, trying to watch despite the tears rolling down my face. that entire 20 minute tribute to Whitney just had me so emotional. she really was a star of a different kind. a true “Superstar Legend” back when there weren’t a million and when singers had to actually SING in order to make it huge.
