To celebrate the launch of the Rendez-Vous ladies watch collection, Jaeger-LeCoultre hosted a party with Zhao Wei presenting the new collection in Shanghai, China, last week.
The Asian star wore a Lanvin gown, which Karlie Kloss wore in the American Vogue June 2012 sports issue.
Zhao’s red-and-black glazed floral brocade gown with structured pannier pleating at the hips was beautiful.
Unfortunately it was not really working for me on Zhao.
Maybe it’s her hand placement distorting the view, but the proportions seem off, resulting in the gown making her appear wider than she is.
I think someone taller would have done justice to this look.
Hopefully it will get a second run-out on the red carpet.

I think this dress is wonderful in theory, but in execution it is not so good. Other than Karlie, I doubt there is anyone who would be able to pull it off. Those pleats at the hips would make anyone look wide.
Agreed!
I love the colors and fabric, but the lines are impossible!
i agree on the hips. maybe a belt could’ve helped the look?
It also needs to have about 8 inches cut off the bottom for her. Sad waste of an interesting gown.
I think its the angle of this photo. she looked pretty good in other photos!
I dislike this gown very much. I don’t think it would look good on anyone, to be honest. She should have also worn her hair up.
It could have been better …
On someone with the right stature and with the right fit (it is a size too big on Zhao as far as I can see), this beautiful gown would’ve worked perfectly. Also hoping it will get a re-run.
Just read the post on Du Juan (whom I’m already considering for my top front-runner for BDOTW). I’ve got no doubt she would’ve rocked this gown too.
Hideous in theory and practice!
Would this dress be flattering to ANY woman’s figure?
I love it on Karlie but on her it makes her look 15 pounds heavier
Is she pregnant or something? She looks drowned in the gown. I just learned that asian women on your post today really brought their game on RC (Li Bing Bing and Du Juan), but the same can’t be said about her.
She just gave birth not long ago, I guess that’s why she appear wider than usual.
Unfortunately I think this dress will only work on specific body types. It looks good on Karlie but Zhao is shorter and curvier so this dress is unflattering on her. Not loving the dress in general.
Spot on.
