Beauty Trend Spotting: The Pale Lip

Looking at the red carpet the last few weeks we can’t help but to ask: where has all the lip colour gone?

Whether it was haute couture events like Chanel’s The Little Black Jacket Event (see Rinko Kikuchi, Leigh Lezark and Linda Evangelista) or the traditionally gaudy CMT awards (see Ashley Greene, Kelly Picker and Carrie Underwood) pale, nude lips were the order of the day.

Gucci Westman, global artistic director for Revlon, Jennifer Aniston and Cameron Diaz’s makeup artist of choice, and the queen of the nude lip puts it down to the season: ‘When it’s hot and humid, don’t complicate things,’ she says.

‘Go for a pigment-heavy smoky eye; keep the rest of your face natural, matte and clean and wear a nude lip colour. It will keep all the focus on the eyes and give the face a healthy, effortless, and easy finish.’

Here’s how to achieve the perfect pale lip:

– Prep the lips. Exfoliate with a product like Bioelements Lip Buff which will sweep away any dead, peeling skin, reduces line and improve the texture of your lips.

– Use a lip liner to redefine your lips. Fill in your lips with the liner too. This will help your look last all day. Smashbox The Nude Lip Liner comes in a range of shades for all skin tones.

– When it comes to lip colour, if you have a lighter complexion and hair colour, go with a peachy nude, olive-toned skin should use pink or light peach tones and stay away from mocha colours. Dark skin nude look lips look best with mocha tones.

– Finish off with lip gloss and then use a touch of concealer on your cupid’s bow for a pop of colour.
