Carrie Underwood channeled her inner rockstar at the 2012 CMT Music Awards, which took place in Nashville on Wednesday evening.
Opting for a surprising black ensemble, Carrie showed off some leg in a silver-and-black sequined Randi Rahm mini dress.
The country singer accessorized the look with edgy Gio Diev ankle-cuff booties and a matching Rene Caovilla black satin and Swarovski crystal clutch.
I was completely shocked to see that Carrie did not wear yet another tulle-heavy gown, especially for such a major country music event.
Whilst I am ecstatic to see something new from Carrie on the red carpet, those ankle boots bring the whole look down for me.

I don’t know why celebs choose those HORRIBLE anke boots… To me, they are NOT flattering, and not weather-appropriate…
It’s SUMMER people! Wear some elegant sandals, for God’s sake!
Amen.
I don’t know but why, i really find something REALLY weird in her makeup, it’s like, she looks i donn’t know funny, like if her eyes were fake i can’t explain i always get the same feeling about her, i wish she hired new people for her hair and makeup department
Same here. Maybe it’s the overkill false lashes? There’s something plastic about her lately…it wasn’t like that 3-4 years ago.
A human Disco Ball
Hahahaha that made me giggle!
Even though she finally tried something different, I still don’t love it. The ankle boots sure are a big let down, but I don’t like the rest of her look either.
I LOVE the dress but I’m crying over those ankle boots…although I’ve seen worse, these don’t look like hooves so that’s a plus.
Nice to see some change. Without those shoes, i think I will like this look.
+1
Oh the shoes!!! They blind me how grotesque they are! I cant see anything past them.
Hate the look. She should’ve worn a gown. This is a massive bummer.
She should have worn this to the Billboard Music Awards.
Love the dress. Hate the shoes (and the clutch).
I actually like ankle boots, but celebs seem to always pick the worst looking ones, or match them with the wrong outfits.
Strangely enough, this works for me. I like the fact that she tried something new, and maybe because the shoes are black and the sparkly dress is black and so short the shoes add a fun edge to the look.
I have to agree. I think the boots add to the whole rock star vibe. Otherwise it’d just be a pretty girl in a pretty sparkly mini dress.
Also agree. The booties add an edge to this ‘pretty girl in a sparkly dress’ look. I think it works.
The shoes are a let down, but her legs look amazing. I love the dress too!
I really like this look. I think the boots work well with the dress. I love the edginess of it.
I like that she didn’t choose another princess-y ball gown, but those shoes are awful! Totally wrong choice for the dress!
OK, I love Carrie, but this look doesn’t work for me. I’d rather see a princessy dress than the run-of-the-mill tight minidress, which we just got a load of at the MTV Movie awards. Her makeup doesn’t work here, and nor do the horrendous ankle boots. Ankle boots can be elegant, but they have to elongate the legs rather than the shorten them. These are so stumpifying!
I like the dress. The makeup is applied in a way that makes some her nose and cheeks disappear, if only it could have had that effect on the shoes.
