Natalie Dormer In Nicholas Oakwell – ‘Ballgowns: British Glamour Since 1950’ Private View

Natalie Dormer attended the private view for ‘Ballgowns: British Glamour Since 1950’ at The V&A in London on Tuesday.

The British actress wore a Nicholas Oakwell Spring 2012 Couture dress.

Her organza shirt dress was dripping with molten metallics.

Usually I’m not a fan of mixing metals, but there is something very intriguing about this.

A large gold box clutch and silver ankle-strap pumps perfectly accessorized her futuristic look, whilst she played up to the girliness of the dress with soft curls and a pretty pink lip colour.

Her styling is the same as the runway’s but improved.
Her half up, half down hairdo isn’t messy; her clutch is big but not oversized and her ankle strap pumps are (thanks baby Jesus) not white.
    It’s a good look.

ps: that smirk of hers is irritating.

Your comment made me click on the image to see the other pics from Getty, and you are so right… what the hell is up with that funny smirk on her lips? It’s in every picture! Take away from the beauty of her ensemble

      • Emi May 17, 2012 at 16:15 #

I saw her in “The Tudors” and she always had this kind of smirk, in every episode. I think it’s a “natural” thing for her, she doesn’t it on purpose.

      • JMW May 17, 2012 at 16:23 #

I think that’s just her face though she always smiles like that. She has a very odd face so there is something unusual about her smile. I personally like her I think she is an unconvential beauty.

Natalie’s lips are naturally lopsided, as she is the first to admit in interviews. Something that gets enhanced by the camera when she smiles in a certain way. Congratulations on being personal and judgmental about a natural physical quirk, that the actress can do nothing about, on a website that is supposed to be a forum for serious discussion on fashion. Beauty comes in all shapes and guises.

        • justme May 17, 2012 at 17:34 #

Eh, I’ve seen Natalie’s “normal” smile many times in the past.
The crazy smirk happens when she pouts too hard.

          • Jacqu May 17, 2012 at 21:46 #

I think it’s when she does a closed lip smile that the feature presents itself. When she gives her wide smile it’s barely noticeable.

        • Lara May 17, 2012 at 17:54 #

Interesting to get the details on the smirk, although I’ve also seen pics of her without the pout that enhances it.

For some unknown reasons, I really like this look.

I love it, it’s so good girl meets bad girl.

I am attracted to this whole ensemble like a moth to the flame – love it!

I have to say that I love this entire look. Who would have thought gold and silver tones would complement each other so well!

I like the accessories but there’s something I don’t like about the dress, maybe the collar.

  11. Liz May 17, 2012 at 16:35 #

    LOVE!!!!

  12. Riley May 17, 2012 at 16:38 #

I love Natalie Dormer. Such a talented actress. Thanks for featuring her FC! I am glad she finally got a stylist so she can be featured on this site more!

Love this look head to toe. The dress didn’t catch my attention on the runway but on Natalie it is something special. Her styling is perfection.

    BDOTW I dare say?

  13. Betelgeuze May 17, 2012 at 16:44 #

I adore the dress, but why on Earth is she pouting so hard? Without that ridiculous smirk I’d even add this look to my BDOTY2012 list, it’s unique and awesome.

  14. Médée May 17, 2012 at 17:35 #

She looks great, and it’s not easy with such an edgy dress.

I love her as an actress and I think that her mouth make this pout naturally, because it’s on every single pictures of her when she look remotly happy but doesn’t do a toothy smile. But she should work on it in front of her mirror, it’s really distracting.

  15. the(un?)social butterfly May 17, 2012 at 17:40 #

Wonderful look, such an amazing collar and what a bold combination of extra-light fabric with mixing metals… Loved it.

  16. asherlev1 May 17, 2012 at 17:50 #

    *drools*

You’re so right, FC. I’m not usually a fan of mixed metals either, but everything about this is SO right.

    • asherlev1 May 17, 2012 at 17:51 #

*sigh* They’re going to lost in the whirlwind of Cannes though, her look and Kristen’s (many)looks.

  17. Sanette May 17, 2012 at 18:19 #

Wow, this is the best she’s ever looked! I love the retro/futuristic vibe. Hope to see her on the poll.

  18. oksana May 17, 2012 at 19:21 #

it is beautiful and she is pro about it, clutch shoes, hair… thanks

  19. Leo May 17, 2012 at 21:14 #

Beautiful dress, wrong woman. Too cutesy for her. This would look perfect on Dakota Fanning, Miranda Cosgrove or maybe Hailee Steinfeld. It really does not work for her.

  20. Sharon May 18, 2012 at 00:33 #

I usually don’t like dresses like this on anyone over the age of 12, but like others, I somehow find myself liking it very much. And I’m so glad she’s wearing silver shoes.

  21. pipsqueak May 18, 2012 at 03:01 #

Sweet dress. I think her styling is better, especially the silver shoes. What’s up with her mouth? Fix that, and if she can act, I think she should come to Hollywood for the bigger market. She’s pretty, with nice legs.

  22. EmmaWoodhouse May 18, 2012 at 03:04 #

I think it’s a bit cutesy her, particularly with oversized collar. However, I do love the mixed metals here. Carey Mulligan did it right too, at the Met. I think mixing metals works when it seems quite intentional, rather than when it’s an after-thought (like gold shoes with a silver dress, for example). I wish the skirt was longer, too. It’s a bit too babydoll.
