It’s been some time since we’ve seen Marion Cotillard on the red carpet, so I was delighted to see her return last night in New York City for the 2012 Met Gala.
The French beauty did not disappoint in a beautiful Christian Dior Spring 2012 Couture gown.
Slightly modified from the runway version, the shimmering black strapless bodice of Marion’s dress extends just past her hipbones before cascading into a sheer violet skirt.
I love the elegance and moodiness of the glittering black top paired with a sheer purple skirt, especially against Marion’s beautifully dark colouring.
A Dior clutch and heels and Chopard jewelry accessorize the look.

I love the look but I wish for some more sparkle, like from a silver crystal Leiber clutch or visible diamond stud earrings.
This is an undeniably gorgeous gown but her hair just kills it for me. Are those bangs? I can’t really tell.
It’s not elegant or pretty enough for such a shimmery look.
I just LOVE it !
I am SO glad that she modified it. I love the way how the black top passes over to the sheer skirt. Simply beautiful.
Bad hair day for Marion but the dress is really nice – in a way the effect of all these wonderful dresses is being diluted by their numerousness last night – many would’ve had much more impact on another red carpet – in those weeks of dry spell – still seeing so many couture dresses in one place, one night is special
So great to see Marion back on the red carpet! She’s as beautiful as always. While the overall color of this look was rather dark, Marion still made it feminine and sophisticated.
Love that dress, it’s so much better than the runway version. Shame about the hair though. Still it’s one of my favourites from the night.
I reaally think that she is the best dressed, the style, the hair , everything works’. She is the more chic and “actress” of this evening.
I LOVE it. It is so out of the comfort zone and she looks striking.
SOrry, out of her comfrot zone.
j’adore Dior
I think her hair is because of a role
French elegance
Had she worn the original incarnation of this dress, I would have bowed down. As such, I’m bored. I feel like she really didn’t live up to the grandeur of the event.
She is such a beauty. This dress is stunning on her1
I think I may have preferred to see the dress presented with the shoulder piece, just for that little extra something, but the modification to the skirt here is just gorgeous. I can’t help it, Dior gets me every time. Great coverage by the way FC, a glass of something sparkly has surely been deserved!
I think she looks gorgeous! Love the hair and makeup. I’m not a fan of the sheer skirt trend, but everything else here is so lovely.
I’m not usually a fan of sheer skirts but it really works hears. I love the dress but the hair isn’t working for me
The modifications are perfection. She looks amazing, the dress is amazing on her. This is one of my favorites!
pretty, pretty! i am glad she wore the modified version. it is gorgeous! you don’t walk around with your derriere falling out of a bodysuit like SOME people who don’t know better. the catwalk look is gorgeous but for the catwalk (the same as stage make-up…its not for the street.) Marion is sophistication at its best!
Ne regrette rien, girl. This is wonderful. Again, the photos aren’t quite capturing the magic, though.
She looks elegant, but those bangs are not right for her.
If the skirt had been lined, I would have loved this look. Oh, and if she had her lovely Old Hollywood hair back!
The Runway version is so much better. Don’t like the red carpet look. Love her though.
I love the dress – and I probably would have loved it even more if she had worn the runway version – but I hate the hair.
*except for the bodysuit part. I’m glad she modified this.
I simply adore this dress and Marion looks stunning in it.The only problem, from my point of view,is that is like something is missing..maybe some exquisite large earrings to complete the look? What do you think?
I LOVE this embellished version!! She looks amazing!
