Florence Welch In Alexander McQueen – 2012 Met Gala

There was a lot of fist pumping going on when I saw Florence Welch on the red carpet at the 2012 Met Gala, which took place in New York City on Monday night.

That’s because the British singer wore the exact Alexander McQueen Fall 2012 dress I had selected for her in my Fashion Week review.

This is the first time I have ever gotten it right, so I’m going to cherish this moment.

Florence glided down the red carpet wearing this dandelion embroidered organza tiered dress with matching embellished sandals with an armadillo heel and a classic McQueen clutch.

Now that she has worn a look from my wish list, I can honestly say it’s just as perfect as I imagined it would be.

A braided updo completed her look.

I love Flo in the dress. I just wish her accessories weren’t so obvious. Everyone wears a McQueen skull knuckle clutch with their McQueen dress.

Congrats on your victory FC *hugs Catherine*.
You deserve a celebratory naughty dessert.

Please, if I had access to a McQueen skull knuckle clutch, I’d wear it to a rodeo.

Well done FC! I am not always a fan of Florence’s but I think this is drop dead gorgeous. Pretty hair and makeup too.

    Sarah’s second masterpiece.

I lol’ed imagining you vigorously fist pumping at your computer haha :)

Way to go, FC! May this be the first of many such victories! She does look great, very suited to the occasion and her hair is not parted in the middle! Her best look to date, perhaps.

  4. Christine May 8, 2012 at 03:59 #

This is a Flo dress for sure. You picked it right, FC! I love how she is owning it. I know some may dislike it but it’s the MET gala. She is rocking this!

  5. Ruby May 8, 2012 at 04:09 #

This is why I love Florence. Although her choices are not always popular amongst everyone – she stays true to herself, is daring and I love how she works it in everything that she wears.

  6. Sally May 8, 2012 at 04:10 #

    This is just extraordinary!

  7. bm May 8, 2012 at 04:42 #

    not my taste.

I’m lukewarm about the look. It looks a bit like a wedding cake. It could’ve been shorter, like the runway version. However, I couldn’t think of a better person to wear this gown than Flo. It definitely suits her.

    • J May 8, 2012 at 12:34 #

It does look like a wedding cake!! :D LOL

  9. Emi May 8, 2012 at 06:11 #

I prefer the runway length, sorry, she looks like a lamp.

    • dressaddict May 8, 2012 at 07:40 #

Yeap, the perfect description, a lamp. Such a horrendous look, sorry. Florence should’ve stayed close friends with Elie Saab.

  10. Malinda Jane May 8, 2012 at 06:23 #

Totally agree with this. The length totally throws off her proportions and makes her look stumpy even though she’s nearly 6 feet tall. But, the look itself is great for her.

She ruined this dress for me.

  12. CC May 8, 2012 at 06:47 #

Sorry, how come Dakota fanning’s dress was overwhelming but this one is not..
I think the runway version is way better.. She should have kept the runway shoes and maybe the lower layer….

  15. feiy May 8, 2012 at 10:23 #

i’m sorry but she just looks like a hobo to me :(

  16. Niki May 8, 2012 at 10:50 #

Woo hoo FC! You can offically add fashion psychic to your resume!
I like this but would have liked it more if the hem was either higher, as in the runway look, or was floor length. I am not a fan of the ankle-basher look. But I kiss the ground that Florence walks on, so all in all, I like it. And I have to say… those are the BIGGEST sleeves I have EVER seen!!!! You could hide a small child up there! hehe

  17. robbie May 8, 2012 at 11:46 #

looks like she should be covering a toilet roll.

    • msd May 8, 2012 at 12:37 #

      Ha! Well done.

  18. Jess2 May 8, 2012 at 12:06 #

Well done and congrats FC, you go girl!! With all the poof and fabric, it takes a speical person to pull this off, make it work and not be swallowed and Miss Welch is rocking this dress. She looks awesome and this is perfect for the Met Gala

  20. Yeliz May 8, 2012 at 14:59 #

I’m very happy that she wore the gown you picked for her from this collection FC but unfortunately I have to say that I don’t like this look. I know it’s very much Florence’s style and the gown is very unique but I can’t like it. :(

  21. EmmaWoodhouse May 8, 2012 at 15:26 #

I think this dress is totally crazy and I don’t LIKE it at all, but I do love seeing some McQueen madness at the Met! This is this year’s version of Daphne Guiness :D

  22. Gillian May 8, 2012 at 16:11 #

Perfection. FINALLY someone got the memo that they were attending the MET BALL.

  23. Rebecca Z May 8, 2012 at 17:16 #

    Stunning. She is rocking this.

  24. Felicia May 8, 2012 at 20:41 #

FC was dead on. Only Florence could wear that dress so well. That being said, I personally don’t like it. But it maybe the fiercest fugly dress of all time!

  25. Dan Oliver May 8, 2012 at 21:31 #

I love this Florence always stays true to her own individual style its not going to be everyones taste but i think she looks great.

  26. Parvati May 8, 2012 at 22:15 #

It’s great that Florence Welch wore the dress you had chosen for her, because it really suits her, but I’m not crazy about the length. I think it looks a bit awkward. Maybe as a floor-length gown, it would have looked better.

  27. Stephanie May 8, 2012 at 23:03 #

I’m sorry, but I STRONGLY DISLIKE everything about this. The model looks 1000% better in this than her.

  28. Dhppy May 9, 2012 at 02:16 #

It’s ridiculous, which is what McQueen does best. I wish she had kept the ruffled collar… and perhaps worn a powdered wig.

  29. I would be excited about this look, had she not been in a nude dress on practically every occasion for the past two years or so. The hair bugs me and I prefer the length of the runway version. Meh.

  30. Sophie May 12, 2012 at 00:18 #

I really like Florence and what she does with her fashion choices – she is different and most importantly stays true to her own tastes. However, I do wish people would see her stage looks because she does wear amazing pieces. She does go beyond the nude look. I love this website by the way – great job.
