Trust Christina Ricci to wear a show-stopping frock to the 2012 Met Gala, held on Monday night in New York City.
The petite actress wore a bespoke Thakoon dress.
Her guipure and lace bandeau with a blush silk organza bow was teamed with a high-waist tea-length guipure lace skirt.
Many would’ve failed to display this creation so elegantly, but Christiana pulls it off with great aplomb.
Normally I find bows can be overly fussy on the red carpet, but on this particular look it is almost a work of art the way it is perfectly framed behind her.
Black patent pumps, a floral cocktail ring, a slicked-back hairdo and studded earrings completed her look.
I’m guessing this will be the night’s marmite dress.
Do you love it or hate it?

LOVE IT
+1
<3 it!
I loved her dress last year. she looked so statuesque. This dress is Okay, it makes her bust look non existent and she looks so small. But she is working the heck out of it nontheless
I think her makeup is a bit too naked for me, and it’s making me feel like she is at a dress fitting FOR the Met Gala, not the Met Gala itself.
It’s crazy and all over the place but I absolutely love it with no ‘buts or except fors’ attached. Not that many can pull over the top looks off, but Christina has the moxie to do it, you go girl!
It AMAZING !!!! I LOOOVE IT !!! although I wish it were a whole dress instead of a top and skirt but other than that DEVINE !!!
FC I have been waiting for you to post Christina’s outfit since I first saw it early in the morning on People magazine just so I can read your review because I thought it was HORRIBLE ! What a let down for Christina especially after her last year’s phenomenal gown!
Finally the Christina Ricci post! I agree that bows can be tacky and overly fussy but I love it here. When I first heard that Thakoon is dressing Christina I thought that she will not wow me this year but that was not the case. I don’t even mind the black pumps to be honest. She looks perfect and works the hell out of this dress!
Surprisingly, I like it.
I love this! So impressive how she carries these massive looks despite her petite frame. She is selling the hell out of this dress, and that’s what you do at the Met Gala.
+1
Whilst Christina totally pulls it off, those are the boringest black pumps I have ever seen. Strappy Jimmy Choo sandals would have brought her look up.
I loved it at first, but I think that it makes her look so short. I jsut think that the lace on top should have been over her chest, esentially the whoel thing should ahve been pulled up about 2 inches.
I woudl have loved it had it been for that.
I absolutly love this art piece!
I simply LOVE it. It works on her!
LOVE IT! The look on her face says “I dare you to say a short girl like me can’t work a big bow!” Fabulous!
Love it. It’s just so her, and she rocks it.
My first impulse is LOVE but I just wish it were a full length gown.
+1. And is that a midriff-ish cutout? what in the world? The dress doesn’t have to do so many things. It has enough going on.
Freaking LOVE THIS!
I want to love it, but I don’t. I love her–she is working it to death, but for me the bow is just too unwieldy and voluminous. Especially after seeing YSL’s Paris Rose dress just the other day which is perfectly proportioned and manageable to wear. This is just overkill.
LOVE IT! Mostly because Ricci looks like a animated Barbie doll when she wears formal gowns and such. She’s so little. I want to put her on a shelf and show her off. I also think it’s a great dress.
Shouldnt work, yet totally does. This woman wears and works clothing so beautifully.
I’m not sure I love the dress, but I love CR wearing it.
I LOVE it (on her)!!! I read critics reviews elsewhere and they hated it. Glad to see there are so many others out there besides myself that agree she totally pulled this off! AND looks stunning!
One more thing…yes, it IS a piece of artwork!
She worked the hell out of this dress. She is too cute!
LOVE IT
ASTOUNDING!
Talking about being overwhelmed by a dress… I don’t like it at all!
I hate it but girl is working it so can’t fault her there.
I really want to love it, but it’s too much dress for her. In the close up it looks better, but in the full length shot she looks swamped in it.
I love it! She has the perfect attitude to pull off this gown and she is working the hell out of it. She looks great.
I’m putting this one on the same list as Kristen Stewart’s, and I’m calling it “I Hope I Never See Again”.
THANK YOU! I feel the same way! Although at least this one is amusing.
Its silly of me to look at a gown of this magnitude and say “Oh, it’s okay”, but compared to her jaw dropping gown from last year, it doesn’t hold up.
Love. It’s amazing that such a tiny woman can carry off such big looks. Not many people could wear this dress, it would be wearing them. One of my favorite looks for the evening. It’s wonderful and works with the evening’s theme. Kudos to Thakoon.
AMAZING
I love it, and it proves that most of the times it’s a matter of proportions and attitude, not height . She looks like a model.
SHE pulls this off
FANTASTIC!! For someone so petite she can pull off the most amazing things!! Love it and her
I think I’m closer to hating it rather than loving it. The blush fabric is just too much for my liking, I think it’s totally overwhelming on her. It’s true that she can pull off big dresses, but I feel this outfit is overlt fussy with no reason.
Jaw dropped! I know people are sick of plain black pumps but that dress is so distracting why would you be looking at them! Love, love, love this dress!
