Carey Mulligan In Prada – 2012 Met Gala

Carey Mulligan, the co-host of this year’s Met Gala, was one of the first to arrive on the red carpet.

The British actress looked sensational wearing a custom two-tone gold-and-silver Prada halter dress covered with paillettes.

Her dress with a pleated detail at the back was styled with satin Prada pumps and a simple updo with a rockabilly twist.

Regular readers know I’m not a fan of mixing metals, but this look ranks in the top five for Carey.

Despite her co-hosting duties, she was radiant and relaxed on the red carpet.

Sultry, smoky eyes and a nude lip colour completed her look.

Do you agree that this is one of Carey’s best ever looks?

I not a big fan of shiny clothes, so this took me awhile to appreciate. Eventually, I came around.

I agree. I’m not usually a fan of Carey Mulligan’s appearances, but I really like this one. The dress is nice, but what I like the most is her hair and even more, her make-up, which I find quite daring for her.

Definitely a contender for BD of the night. I don’t like a quiff, but she is rocking this one. She looks amazing.

  7. Nat May 8, 2012 at 11:13 #

    I’m loving this.
And I think she loved it too, as she looked more confident and smiley than usual on the red carpet.

  9. JessCar May 8, 2012 at 08:36 #

Amazing make up and hair, love the dress, but wish it was a full length gown…..

  10. Jess2 May 8, 2012 at 08:30 #

I am also not a fan of mixing metals but I do like this look and this is definitely one of her best looks. I don’t love the shoes but I very much love her hair and makeup.

  11. noo May 8, 2012 at 07:42 #

i am loving this 😀 the hair is exquisite, her make up is minimal to let the dress shine, literally!
i just realized that the only other time i ever liked carey’s style was a couple of years ago when she wore prada to the oscars! maybe carey should stick to miuccia 😀

  12. vicky May 8, 2012 at 07:25 #

One of my few favourites! Although the shoes could have been better.

    i likey. i’m a sucker for sequins!!

  16. Vera May 8, 2012 at 06:30 #

    Carey matches Prada very well.

  17. Tina May 8, 2012 at 05:46 #

Gorgeous, gorgeous dress! Makeup looks a bit cakey, but I can overlook that, because the colour and fit of the dress work wonders for her.

  19. pipsqueak May 8, 2012 at 05:16 #

Definitely best ever! Carey also seemed more comfortable and confident on the red carpet now. I can also see her amazing physical transformation. She looks much more polished. Love the smokey eyes and nude lips.

  20. Joy May 8, 2012 at 05:15 #

Wow. What a fun night? I’m so in love with the pailettes that are so in right now. I totally agree this is a best for her. I never would have guessed this look or color choices for her. I hate to be picky, but I don’t think I love the shoe color or choice.

  21. Felicia May 8, 2012 at 05:04 #

Hair & make-up is pure perfection for me! The dress? Well technically everything is great. The fit, the length and the colour looks great on her skin. Just that I personally find it ugly. Not a fan of those sequin/whatevers!

  22. bm May 8, 2012 at 04:24 #

Amazing, this is the best ever from her.

  23. Wong Hiao Hiao May 8, 2012 at 04:03 #

Still don’t like her stiff posture and pained/sheepish expression, but the unexpected choice blew me away … wow!

  24. Carolyn May 8, 2012 at 03:25 #

Am I the only one that’s reminded of the fire dress from The Hunger Games?

  25. Maria Claudia May 8, 2012 at 03:09 #

    Absolutely. She looks AMAZING.

  26. DivaDebbi (Beauty and Fashion Blog) May 8, 2012 at 03:04 #

The dress is art and she looks beautiful. I dont care for her hair color, style or makeup.

  27. Emmeline May 8, 2012 at 02:59 #

Stunning! Her appearances on the red carpet have been scarce lately, but I’m so glad to see her back and in full force.

I love her hair and makeup, and the silhouette of the dress is so flattering on her. If it were me, I probably would have chosen strappy sandals, but I think the satin pumps are fine.

  28. Grace Patricia May 8, 2012 at 02:57 #

For me, perfection from head to toe.

  29. CTgirl May 8, 2012 at 01:47 #

This is fantastic. From the ground up this whole look works.

  30. msd May 8, 2012 at 01:47 #

I’m going to be in the minority here but I’m not feeling this on her. Yet again, an edgy dress has been given to a person who isn’t edgy.

  31. T from Sydney May 8, 2012 at 01:39 #

wow i didnt realise it was mixing metals i thought it was all gold.

this dress is amazing the hair make up is fantastic. not to keen on the shoes but it works.

this was one of my fave dress tonight.

  32. ash May 8, 2012 at 01:25 #

    Wow, she looks stunning!

  33. Jessica May 8, 2012 at 01:02 #

She looked beautiful! And she usually looks so bleh!
    I love it!

  35. Molly May 8, 2012 at 00:52 #

This is what the Met Gala is all about. She could use some earrings and a bracelet, but I am speechless.

  36. Hannah May 8, 2012 at 00:50 #

Somethign about it just works. I’m nto sure if it’s because I’ve been bingeing on Mad Men over the last few days, but I love the retro yet modern feel of the look. Married life certainly suits her.
The only thing I have an issue with is the pumps. Satin looks fine on shoes in real life, but photographs horribly, and they seem to be popular at the met gala this year.

  37. Riley May 8, 2012 at 00:50 #

I agree. This look is her top five. The dress is absolutely stunning. This is Prada at its best.

    • Yeliz May 8, 2012 at 05:09 #

      I agree.

  38. MG May 8, 2012 at 00:45 #

She looks so good! one of my fav looks from her

  39. Chloe May 8, 2012 at 00:42 #

This is her best look yet. The hair is perfect, the make-up is sexy, and attitude is fierce. Marriage really agrees with her 🙂

  40. What Is The New Black May 8, 2012 at 00:41 #

Wow!! I’m at a loss for words! So gorgeous!

  41. Carmen May 8, 2012 at 00:41 #

I agree with you, one of her best looks ever. Love the make up and hair¡¡

  42. Ellie May 8, 2012 at 00:41 #

God this is even more spectacular from behind! I love her hair!

  43. Christine May 8, 2012 at 00:41 #

I clapped when I saw this!!

Just exquisite. The material is gorgeous! BDOTW.

  44. Ramsay May 8, 2012 at 00:40 #

Wow! Wow! And i rarely say wow! She looks like a million bucks – stylish, elegant, dripping in paillettes – will someone top this dress tonight? I doubt so – AMAZING

  45. Linda May 8, 2012 at 00:40 #

I’m not sure. I want to like it more, but it looks awfully stiff and Carey already is a little stiff on the red carpet by nature so I’m not sure I like it that much.

  46. Matt May 8, 2012 at 00:39 #

Great start, she looks amazing. The hair and makeup is free of flaws. The dress is perfection.

  47. ash May 8, 2012 at 00:39 #

    wow….that’s unexpected!
    I love her shoes tho

  48. EmmaWoodhouse May 8, 2012 at 00:38 #

Um, WOW! She totally fits the spirit of the night–I am so impressed with the artistic feel of this look and her effortless presence. And as you said, FC, the usual critique on mixed metals is taking the night off!
I just got my first OMGosh moment! 😀

  49. Serena May 8, 2012 at 00:38 #

Not a big fan of the shoes but she looks outstanding nonetheless.

    • Jones19 May 8, 2012 at 02:04 #

Ditto. I hate satin pumps as much as FC hates white ones. LOVE the dress though.

      • noo May 8, 2012 at 07:39 #

i was just thinking the same thing. any miu miu metallic sandals would have worked perfectly !!

      • Stephanie May 8, 2012 at 07:50 #

I agree. This look would’ve been perfect with some strappy sandals.

        • dee May 8, 2012 at 13:48 #

I agree. She needed strappy sandals.

    • Alina May 8, 2012 at 12:34 #

      I agree.
