Carey Mulligan In Prada – 2012 Met Gala

Carey Mulligan, the co-host of this year’s Met Gala, was one of the first to arrive on the red carpet.

The British actress looked sensational wearing a custom two-tone gold-and-silver Prada halter dress covered with paillettes.

Her dress with a pleated detail at the back was styled with satin Prada pumps and a simple updo with a rockabilly twist.

Regular readers know I’m not a fan of mixing metals, but this look ranks in the top five for Carey.

Despite her co-hosting duties, she was radiant and relaxed on the red carpet.

Sultry, smoky eyes and a nude lip colour completed her look.

Do you agree that this is one of Carey’s best ever looks?

I not a big fan of shiny clothes, so this took me awhile to appreciate. Eventually, I came around.

  • Parvati

I agree. I’m not usually a fan of Carey Mulligan’s appearances, but I really like this one. The dress is nice, but what I like the most is her hair and even more, her make-up, which I find quite daring for her.

  • Rebecca Z

Definitely a contender for BD of the night. I don’t like a quiff, but she is rocking this one. She looks amazing.

  • Gillian

  • Andrea

    Looks like a sardine.

  • katie

This is her best look i think ever, and she looks totally radiant as well, she is totally rocking this look!

  • Nat

    I’m loving this.
And I think she loved it too, as she looked more confident and smiley than usual on the red carpet.

  • manja

stunning, one of the best of the night for me,the first one I said WOW,and for her it’s the best ever look imo.a small one if I cld change it wld be the shoes, some strapy gold black sandals.but non the less one of the best tonight.

  • JessCar

Amazing make up and hair, love the dress, but wish it was a full length gown…..

  • Jess2

I am also not a fan of mixing metals but I do like this look and this is definitely one of her best looks. I don’t love the shoes but I very much love her hair and makeup.

  • noo

i am loving this 😀 the hair is exquisite, her make up is minimal to let the dress shine, literally!
i just realized that the only other time i ever liked carey’s style was a couple of years ago when she wore prada to the oscars! maybe carey should stick to miuccia 😀

  • vicky

One of my few favourites! Although the shoes could have been better.

  • roxana

  • Amy

  • CC

    i likey. i’m a sucker for sequins!!

  • Vera

    Carey matches Prada very well.

  • Tina

Gorgeous, gorgeous dress! Makeup looks a bit cakey, but I can overlook that, because the colour and fit of the dress work wonders for her.

  • Jacqu

  • pipsqueak

Definitely best ever! Carey also seemed more comfortable and confident on the red carpet now. I can also see her amazing physical transformation. She looks much more polished. Love the smokey eyes and nude lips.

  • Joy

Wow. What a fun night? I’m so in love with the pailettes that are so in right now. I totally agree this is a best for her. I never would have guessed this look or color choices for her. I hate to be picky, but I don’t think I love the shoe color or choice.

  • Felicia

Hair & make-up is pure perfection for me! The dress? Well technically everything is great. The fit, the length and the colour looks great on her skin. Just that I personally find it ugly. Not a fan of those sequin/whatevers!

  • bm

Amazing, this is the best ever from her.

  • Wong Hiao Hiao

Still don’t like her stiff posture and pained/sheepish expression, but the unexpected choice blew me away … wow!

  • Am I the only one that’s reminded of the fire dress from The Hunger Games?

  • Maria Claudia

    Absolutely. She looks AMAZING.

  • The dress is art and she looks beautiful. I dont care for her hair color, style or makeup.

  • Emmeline

Stunning! Her appearances on the red carpet have been scarce lately, but I’m so glad to see her back and in full force.

I love her hair and makeup, and the silhouette of the dress is so flattering on her. If it were me, I probably would have chosen strappy sandals, but I think the satin pumps are fine.

  • Grace Patricia

For me, perfection from head to toe.

  • CTgirl

This is fantastic. From the ground up this whole look works.

  • msd

I’m going to be in the minority here but I’m not feeling this on her. Yet again, an edgy dress has been given to a person who isn’t edgy.

  • T from Sydney

wow i didnt realise it was mixing metals i thought it was all gold.

this dress is amazing the hair make up is fantastic. not to keen on the shoes but it works.

this was one of my fave dress tonight.

  • ash

    Wow, she looks stunning!

  • Jessica

She looked beautiful! And she usually looks so bleh!
    I love it!

  • Talita

  • Molly

This is what the Met Gala is all about. She could use some earrings and a bracelet, but I am speechless.

  • Hannah

Somethign about it just works. I’m nto sure if it’s because I’ve been bingeing on Mad Men over the last few days, but I love the retro yet modern feel of the look. Married life certainly suits her.
The only thing I have an issue with is the pumps. Satin looks fine on shoes in real life, but photographs horribly, and they seem to be popular at the met gala this year.

  • Riley

I agree. This look is her top five. The dress is absolutely stunning. This is Prada at its best.

    • Yeliz

      I agree.

  • MG

She looks so good! one of my fav looks from her

  • Chloe

This is her best look yet. The hair is perfect, the make-up is sexy, and attitude is fierce. Marriage really agrees with her 🙂

  • Wow!! I’m at a loss for words! So gorgeous!

  • Carmen

I agree with you, one of her best looks ever. Love the make up and hair¡¡

  • Ellie

God this is even more spectacular from behind! I love her hair!

  • Christine

I clapped when I saw this!!

Just exquisite. The material is gorgeous! BDOTW.

  • Ramsay

Wow! Wow! And i rarely say wow! She looks like a million bucks – stylish, elegant, dripping in paillettes – will someone top this dress tonight? I doubt so – AMAZING

  • Linda

I’m not sure. I want to like it more, but it looks awfully stiff and Carey already is a little stiff on the red carpet by nature so I’m not sure I like it that much.

  • Matt

Great start, she looks amazing. The hair and makeup is free of flaws. The dress is perfection.

  • ash

    wow….that’s unexpected!
    I love her shoes tho

  • EmmaWoodhouse

Um, WOW! She totally fits the spirit of the night–I am so impressed with the artistic feel of this look and her effortless presence. And as you said, FC, the usual critique on mixed metals is taking the night off!
I just got my first OMGosh moment! 😀

  • Serena

Not a big fan of the shoes but she looks outstanding nonetheless.

    • Jones19

Ditto. I hate satin pumps as much as FC hates white ones. LOVE the dress though.

      • noo

i was just thinking the same thing. any miu miu metallic sandals would have worked perfectly !!

      • Stephanie

I agree. This look would’ve been perfect with some strappy sandals.

        • dee

I agree. She needed strappy sandals.

    • Alina

      I agree.
