Ginnifer Goodwin donned her finest hat and headed to Louisville, Kentucky, for the 138th Kentucky Derby on Saturday afternoon.
The actress wore a Preen Spring 2012 dress with the same colour-block chequered print we saw on Michelle Obama last week.
My first reaction was to dislike this watermelon ¾-sleeve dress, but I realised it was just the chequered-print patch I objected too.
I love the silhouette and the pleated detail on the skirt, which could stand to be an inch or three shorter, but the patch feels so out of place as do her black Ann Taylor pumps with this look.
The only thing I can’t fault is her H&M hat.
This is very disappointing for someone of Ginnifer’s calibre.
A Giuseppe Zanotti beige clutch and Bulgari jewels completed her look.

YEAAAAARGGGHHHHH! My eyes! There is nothing okay about this.
WHAT IS THAT IN HER HEAD!?
whaaaaaaaaaaaaat!?
Super-thumbs down
the dress-hat combo is very strange! i would have liked the dress with a bespoke from philip treacy or stephen jones because the craziness would have made more sense of the print! and that hat belongs at the beach :S
This is a goddamnawful mess…no less! She is drowning… fast…i cannot find one redeeming factor/feature here.
I wanted to say that I can get past the hat because what I really find disgusting are her shoes, but I realized that I can’t do it. The problem is, she has short hair and when she wears a hat like this, it looks like she has not hair at all. But like I said, the most disgusting point are her shoes. What was she thinking? Even simple nude pumps would’ve been perfect to complement her clutch.
So if I overlook the hat and the shoes, which I can’t to be honest, I have to say I love this dress.
This is a nightmare for me, just no.
That is way too much fabric, and black pumps weigh her down even more ! and I’m starting to think that she has one expression
I understand what she was going for with the hat, and the watermelon shade looks good on her. However, that checkered pattern is HORRENDOUS here!!! The style of the dress–and the shoes–leave much to be desired.
I love Preen but this dress could cause me to fall out of love very quickly. The one thing that does annoy me is they often put belt loops without providing the belt. Looks like they did it here .
This whole look is very matronly. The shoes, the length of the skirt and that clutch..eugh!
+1
Awful!!!
this is the definition of trying too hard.
already with the pixie cut, and now the hat???
what gives?
CC
NO.
the entire look is a mess.
Bad design. What was her stylist thinking? I don’t like a single thing here.
Terrible and highly fug.
It would be a great look if she was 50 years old. So… awful.
I may be the only one here to think so, but I like the dress! I feel like this patch is quite interesting ; the only thing that is disturbing me is the orange square ; it’s too bright for the rest of the pattern.
For the rest, I don’t like it at all. Delicate shoes would have been better (and not in black). Also, I hate the hat ; the texture, form and how it sits on her head is all wrong. It’s cheap looking too…
Finally, her makeup is quite ugly : the brows, the blue on top of her lid, the skin… If the makeup was better and she wasn’t wearing that awful hat, I would have like it.
Dear Ginnifer Goodwin,
Face it. YOUR STYLIST HATES YOU.
+1 I thought I was the only one! It may be weird, but it fascinates me, oddly… And I totally agree the accessories gotta go. FC, so many gals wearing Preen lately!
