Claire Danes seemed to take her invitation to the 2012 White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner, held at the Washington Hilton on Saturday evening, to heart when it came to picking out a dress.
The star of ‘Homeland’, which President Barack Obama has previously admitted is his favourite television show, wore a white Vivienne Westwood satin dress with an asymmetrical halter neckline.
Known for her unfailing devotion to classic tailored silhouettes, this is quite a departure for Claire – but in the wrong direction, unfortunately.
Paired with bright red lipstick, her white satin halter bears an unfortunate resemblance to Marilyn Monroe.
Perhaps if she had taken the time to style her hair, this look would have seemed at least a bit more pulled together overall.

I’m not a Westwood fan anyway, but this is a real mess. That neckline is a disaster. I agree that Claire should have taken a little more time with her hair, and bright white doesn’t seem to be her color.

I agree with everyone before me. This is a hotmess and I never thought I would use that term with Claire Danes. I hate Vivienne Westwood designs, as they rarely look amazing. What was her stylist thinking?
She looks as though she stumbled into this party after too many cocktails. The concept of the dress–luscious white satin artistically draped–sounds nice, but her execution really failed.
She has a lot of potential, btu as bored as I get by her boring simplistic looks, when she tries to go out of the box it just doesn’t work for me. I hate to say it, but to me she is just too vanilla to do anythign interesting.
I agree. I love her as an actress, but when it comes to the RC, this is me giving up on her. I don’t like anything that she wears.
I really like the dress- like all Westwood dresses: they are stunning. I think the problem is her not the gown!
