Naomi Watts was in New York City last night to attend the Tribeca Ball 2012 at the Academy of Art.
The actress wore a Stella McCartney Pre-Fall 2012 dress.
Yes, another Stella McCartney look to hit the red carpet. Excluding the Stella McCartney event on the weekend, Naomi is the fourth celebrity to don a look by the British designer and it’s only Tuesday.
As a Stella devotee, we are not surprised to see Naomi in this gorgeous black velvet peplum dress.
Naomi’s dress with a built-in bralet was teamed with a Stella McCartney faux-python ‘Grace’ clutch and black Stella McCartney Spring 2012 black sandals.
A gold Van Cleef & Arpels choker was the perfect finishing touch.
I have to say I love this dress, even though my first reaction was that Naomi’s dress had a wardrobe malfunction.
The sexy, suggestive nature of the dress is in total contrast to Naomi’s goody two-shoes image which I love.

I’ll be sincere – I hate it.
I do too. Love the lush texture but that’s it.
I don’t like it. The fit is terrible, the hair is boring and the clutch is too big.
I agree with you FC I actually like this dress-considering it’s from SMcC but it does look like her dress fell down revealing the top of her bra
That half-exposed bra look ruins this dress for me.
FC, is Stella McCartney the brand under PPR?
yes it is part of the Gucci group
“goody two-shoes image”?you clearly haven’t seen mulholland drive FC!Naomi is pure bad ass!never thought of her as goody two-shoes lol
no…but I will have to catch it now.
Gosh! plz don’t remind me, I just had an exam on American cinema in which we had a Mulholland drive sequence to analyse!
And yes, Naomi is a bad ass !
I don’t like, it seems she has no boob support!
Naomi is one of my favorites, but the proportions of this are too long waisted for her in my opinion. And the clutch is way too big–that, the proportions, the velvet and flat hair are all weighing her down. LOVE the shoes, tho.
When I saw that Naomi was wearing Stella I thought oh no another Spring 2012 look but this is refreshing. I like the runway look better. It looks drooping on Naomi.
+1
And I hate that it’s velvet. Plus, her hair and the choker don’t make it any bit better.
Honestly. don’t really like it. I think she should have worn the belt, there’s just no support
I don’t like it. The shape, the fit, etc.
Nope, she totally ruined the dress and it wasn’t just for the bust part. She changed it to an awful length and removed the belt which ruined the peplum detail and made the dress look plain, boring and cheap. I’m not a big fan of the oversized clutch as well.
I do like the choker and the sandals though.
Velvet??? Really???
I don’t care for this on Naomi. Prefer it on the model, shorter and with the peplum hitting in the appropriate spot. This looks like an apron.
Sidebar, her face looks very different to me.
The fit is way off, should’ve been pulled up at the bust to make it fit and shorter. I guess she opted out of wearing the belt and chose the gold choker instead (which works just fine) but the python clutch doesn’t work at all. Fail in my book.
On the model- Love. On Naomi- not a bit.
+1
Does anyone else think it looks like the waist has been cut too low. This is what makes it look like the dress has just slipped down. Put it a bit higher and wear the belt and it’d have my vote.
STEL-LAAAAAA!! OK, that was my imitation Marlon Brando cry of agonized desire. And my desire is not to see Stella McCartney on anyone for a long while.
For every Stella piece I like, I see ten that cause me to roll my eyes. For every piece that barely looks ok on a model, I cry when an actual person wears it on the red carpet. And now this. Eighty degrees in NYC and Sienna not only wears Stella but it’s velvet to boot. Excuse me while I go hurl.
Oops sorry that’s Naomi. Naomi, Sienna, whoever, just no more Stella….
I’m no fan of Stella nor peplum dresses, but Naomi almost makes it work–the dress needs to be fitted better.
Not liking this look. I would have liked it to sit a bit higher on the bust even though it sits in about the same place on the model and I think the skirt is way too long on Naomi and it needs the belt. I do like the rest of the styling though
I like the dress, necklace and shoes. But the dress could’ve been two inches shorter, given her height. The clutch was awful – too big and the print was a complete mismatch. Naomi still managed to look sophisticated and polished, though.
Not being a celebrity, I can get away with boring, stick-straight nothing hair. Naomi, being a celebrity, cannot. Nothing new to see here, move along.
LOL….you make a fair point
