The verdict is in: you hate the pajama trend judging by your reaction to Rihanna’s Emilio Pucci look on the red carpet at the ‘Battleship’ Japan premiere yesterday.
Well I’m sorry to disappoint, but the trend, which has replaced the traditional suit, appears to be hotting up, because celebs and fashionistas alike are loving the easy just-got-out-of-bed look which pays homage to Hugh Hefner’s favourite attire.
Rihanna follows a long line of PJ-loving ladies including Elisa Sednaoui, Salma Hayek, Ulyana Sergeenko, Sofia Coppola, Viviana Volpicella, Marina Larroudé and Caroline Sieber who have all been working traditional sleepwear into luxurious daytime attire.
The look is so hot Sofia and Caroline have worn the same Louis Vuitton Resort 2012 set.
Of this crew of lovelies I think Elisa worked her look best. The sequined blazer and the tighter fit makes the look less obvious, but I have to say I love them all (sans Salma – sorry Salma).
I think the key to pulling off this trend and not appearing like you’re out sleepwalking whilst at a dinner, a red-carpet event or the streets of New York or London, is to wear the PJs with heels.
As chic as Sofia looks, I think the slippers are a step too far for you non-believers.

This is not for me. I think it’s comfy but silly.
not for me either, it’s attractive but it’s so not flattering
You forgot to include Ryan Gosling. He was the first to do the pajama trend at the Cannes film festival
oh yes, so true
I think the late Michael Jackson was the first at his trial back in 2005
came here to say that XD
hate the trend but I like Sofia’s look suprisingly. the slippers actually saved the look. I simply think high heels dont work with pajama styles
Its a chic pyjama look that is to be worn indoors, like at a slumber party! It just looks out of place and very silly out of doors
I think this is silly, Rihanna is the only one that looks reasonable and that’s laughable in itself.
+1. The “Emperor’s new clothes” so to speak.
Love all the looks on the second row + Elisa’s.
I agree that Elisa’s look is the best out of this bunch. Basically because – between the dark colour, the blazer and the shoes – her look doesn’t scream “just stepped out of bed” as much as the others.
I still think that the PJs trend should be left with Mr. Hefner, though.
spot on Nat,you took the words out off my mouth
Worst. Trend. Ever.
I just can’t get on board with this trend.
I like it when it’s just the top or the bottom. Looks comfy
Clearly we have Stella to blame for this. After the god-awful Polka dots and then those hideous clashing prints/mesh/cutouts what monstrosity will Stella come up with next.
LOL!! Thank heavens it’s not only me!!!
Rihanna’s the only one that looks good.
Fashion even more entertaining for me when folks wear a trend seriously which I find hysterical. To each his/her own. After all, I’ve worn my share of ridiculous looks (mostly before turning 25, I hope, lol).
I’ve always believed that just because something is on trend doesn’t make it beautiful or a must to wear. Comfortable but please celebs, not on the red carpet, I don’t wanna see how you look like at home!
thank god. can finally stay in my pjs all day long!
LMAO.
I really dislike this trend, as I feel it looks quite sloppy. Conversely, though, I’m a fan of Elisa’s look because it looks elegant and chic–possibly because of the lowkey monochromatic color scheme. She’s the only one who worked it though! The others are messes.
No. Just no. Please make it stop.
They all look unkempt and ugly except for the Russian, Ulyana Sergeenko, because she intentionally dresses like an eccentric.
I think even Ulyana fails here.
celebrities love the trend yet they all look ridiculous.
I wonder if they actually like to dress like this (I wouldn’t…) or they just want to launch/ follow a trend.
THey look like fools. I can’t even laugh as hard as I want because I’m at work.
Sloppy and ridiculous all of them, except for Elisa and the last woman whose name I do not know.
This is definitely a loser. As others have said, only Rihanna comes close to making this an attractive look, and she’s stretching it pretty far!
I can’t help it, I love this trend. Its the oddest mix between comfy/slouchy and tailored/menswear cool.
Im probably not going to try it myself- The trends probably wont reach Australia- but im enjoying seeing it on the red carpet.
This look is like “I don’t have a job and I am living in my Mom’s house”. It looked dowdy in the highest sense of being decrepitude……… WORST.TREND.OF.THE.YEAR……
I like the look simply because it’s so different to see on the red carpet/out and about. Marina Larroudé does it best in my opinion – it looks understated, sexy, and simple.
I love Elisa and Sofia’s looks!!
Please Fashion Gods, do not let this become a trend. I do not see how this is any more fashionable than wearing yoga pants on the red carpet.
The ALL look freakin’ stupid. The only one that looks even remotely wearable is the way ASOS dressed the model. Elizabeth and James isn’t bad either.
are they really pjs or just look like pjs? either way, i hope this trend dies soon..
Look like PJs
Even on the magical Ulyana this just does not work for me. It reminds me of my dads pyjamas. I think the biggest problem is that they’re not only going for the cut of the traditional pyjama, they’re also doing very tradtional prints and the piping. If they had just used one of the aspects it would have been passable.
Agreed, it’s almost too literal. They remind me of grandfathers. They all look like they should have a tobacco pipe in one hand and a newspaper in the other.
Egad, no. I finally know my upper limit of tolerance- fancy pyjamas.
Yikes…….Have these Designers run out of ideas? This is be of he dumbest trends yet. Hope it dissapears fast
I kinda like it. Not sure if I find it fashionable, however it looks super comfy flowy, and sort of polished in some occasions. It does remind me of my favorite pjs though. Not sure if that is what it’s supposed to do. I strongly dislike the look on Salma, it doesn’t look flowy and cool, but instead looks frumpy.
Hate the trend. I do love the print of the PJ’s next to Sofia (to the right) it reminds me of a Prada print-does anyone know who designed it?
i like the liz and james floral one thats about all…
with all that money dont know why want to look like that….
+1
Terrible trend. Its lazy and unflattering. Any woman below 5’10 will look like a colorful sack of potatoes.
I don’t like this…. NOPE!!!… sorry terrible trend….
Nooooooo this is a horrible ratchet trend that I hope fizzles out asap! When I see everyday normal people in the store with pajamas on all i can think is you’re one lazy mfer to come outside with your pj’s on. wow you don’t have ten minutes or more to throw on some proper clothing and all these celebs look even more ridiculous cause they paid thousand of dollar pajamas outfits.
I’ve been following this blog for long time, and this is my first comment ever. I cannot hold the urge to say : this PJ trend’s sucksssss. seriously, please anyone make it stop, it hurts my eyes..
