January Jones In YSL – Metropolitan Opera Gala Premiere Of Jules Massenet’s ‘Manon’

January Jones joined a host of stars on the red carpet for the Metropolitan Opera Gala Premiere of Jules Massenet’s ‘Manon’ in New York City last night.

We struggled to get on board with January’s recent red-carpet choices, but on this occasion she picked a great look.

Whilst this YSL Fall 2012 dress may not be that exciting at the front, the party is most definitely at the back as the dress reveals a thigh-high split and an open back.

Pre Angelina Jolie’s leg, I think January would’ve made more of the split from the front, but we live in a ‘post Angelina Jolie’s leg’ world where one is ridiculed for appearing to try too hard.

As January’s drape-neck dress has a light embellished detail going across it, she kept her jewels to a minimum by just adding studded diamond earrings.

Retro loose waves, a coral lip colour and a purple eyeshadow completed her look.

Love or loathe?

She looks better from the back than from the front!

agreed! the back of the dress is flawless… the front looks ill-fitting

    • Alina March 27, 2012 at 15:53 #

      Totally agree.

‘post Angelina Jolie’s leg world’ – absolutely hilarious, I can’t stop laughing!!
I don’t like the look from the front and the hair looks a bit weird. Not loving this look from January either.

Loved it until I noticed how awkward the collar is hanging on her. I also wish she had done a dark lippie like the model and for ONCE pulled her hair back. I get that Jan Jones loves the retroish/Veronica Lake hair but I wouldn’t mind seeing some variety in that department. The shoes could have used a little color too. Ok now I’m changing my mind- I do not love… at all.

P.s. Mad Men fans- anyone else notice that Betty Draper was completely MIA from Sunday nights episode?

I love this look! Front and back!

LOVE the back. But the front is a bit awkward…
Also, a pop of colour (lipstick? clutch?) would have been welcommed.

    BDOTW nominee please!

Maybe I’m biased, but I’m a sucker for something with a bit of structure…and those shoulder pads literally have me drooling.

I can’t decide… from the back it’s an amazing dress, from the front it’s too severe… but I love hair and make up (and nails).

It’s elegant. Black and somehow it doesn’t bore.

I just don’t understand January jones’ style. Never have. It’s like she’s out of the 60’s Rockabilly country era….. Nothing wrong with that, I would just love to see some of that amazing fashion from mad men rub off on her a little tiny bit. Her style needs less precilla Presley and more amber heard va va boom!

Love! she was best dressed at this event!

  13. Amy March 27, 2012 at 17:43 #

it’s definitely not bad, it’s a good look for her but if she wanted some attention and make an impression she needed a more eye popping dress

  16. Isa March 27, 2012 at 19:14 #

OMG! Finally!! I was waiting for her comeback! She’s so gorgeous and the last times she showed up on the RC, she looked so numb.. :/

  17. EmmaWoodhouse March 27, 2012 at 19:21 #

Not really a fan. Too drab from the front, but too much showing from the back. Yes it’s not an Angie moment but I’m not a fan of slits.

  18. Shaina March 27, 2012 at 23:52 #

A dress should not have to look good from the back for me to like it. I’m not liking this look at all. Beauty wise, she nailed it. But the dress is unflattering and too old for her.

  19. Tina March 28, 2012 at 00:47 #

Sort of boring from the front. A no from me.

  20. taksi March 28, 2012 at 04:59 #

Not a fan of the hair but the dress is great.

  21. Francois B March 28, 2012 at 14:57 #

Hopefully there’s this back! From front, she looks like a nun!

  22. TeaAtTwo March 29, 2012 at 03:00 #

I really like this look. This reminds me slightly of Amber Heard’s JPG look last year.

  23. D March 30, 2012 at 19:52 #

    i like this …….. a sexy nun :)
