Paris Fashion Week Trend: Jil Sander Spring 2012 Veiled Beanies

Hats are often an overlooked statement accessory, but that is not the case when it comes to Fashion Week street style.

The latest trend to hit the streets of Paris Fashion Week comes courtesy of Jil Sander Spring 2012: veiled beanies.

Four were spotted inside Nina Ricci’s Fall 2012 show last week.

The netted mesh gives an edgy twist to the classic winter staple, while still remaining wearable.

Unsurprisingly, Anna Dello Russo kicked the trend a while ago, but it came into full force at the Balmain Fall 2012 presentation last Thursday. The gothic veil added a perfect touch to the Vogue editor’s all-black ensemble.

Proving the look is not just for the girls; fashion blogger Bryan Boy paired the hat with a printed Givenchy top while attending the Christian Dior Fall 2012 show on Friday.

The bold accessory has even caught on with the model crowd.

Supermodel Hanne Gaby Odiele, who has walked in almost every major show this season, took a break between shows to enjoy some gelato.

The omnipresent paparazzi and style bloggers were eager to snap a pic of the model indulging her sweet tooth whilst looking uber stylish.

Would you jump on this trend?

I love it! The perfect mix of high and low, casual and luxe, demure and playful. I’d totally rock one!

On the right person a veil can look chic, though I’m not really sold on veiled-beanie though maybe look better in real life.

hell no! it looks like something that would be worn to a funeral, and the idea of it being on a beanie is stupid.

  11. Karen March 5, 2012 at 18:16 #

    Very homemade.

  12. doc March 5, 2012 at 17:26 #

Terrible. Just terrible. Would never wear a beanie, a veil or a beanie with a veil stapled on it.

  13. Brooke March 5, 2012 at 17:06 #

    How dreadful.

  14. CTgirl March 5, 2012 at 15:56 #

TSometimes I think fashion designers are laughing behind our backs in an elaborate game of one upmanship:
“I bet I can get them to wear harem pants!”
“Oh yeah, I bet I can get them to wear formal shorts.”
“Child’s play! I can get them to wear a beanie with a veil on it.”

haha good one 🙂 maybe C. Louboutin says the same about Daffodile?

      • Lori March 5, 2012 at 22:43 #

Oh my gosh, totally! He and Manolo get together and laugh at us all the time.

“I bet I can get grown women to wear see-through dresses that show off their underwear!”

      Gosh, I so agree.

I love a veil but not on a beanie.

I know this is rude but ADR’s face should be covered with more than a veil.

    • cartouche March 5, 2012 at 20:12 #

I agree about ADR. she is the definition of a butter face with a personality to match it seems.

  17. Emmeline March 5, 2012 at 15:18 #

I can safely say that no, I would not jump on this trend. Crossing my fingers that it’s just a flash in the pan.

    • Jones19 March 5, 2012 at 16:39 #

LOL exactly what I was thinking, the veil covers her mouth 😀

    • Clover March 7, 2012 at 00:59 #
