Florence Welch In Moschino – NME Awards 2012

Florence Welch took to the red carpet on Wednesday night for the NME Awards in London.

You have long grown tired of Florence wearing neutral colours and kaftans’, so how do you feel about this all-over floral-print Moschino Spring 2012 suit?

I love the print, but I’m not sure about the overall look.

As someone who is 5ft 11ins tall with long arms and legs, I’m on a constant quest to find pants and sleeves that are long enough to fit just right without my clothes looking like the shrunk in the wash.

Whilst this is a great look for Florence, it just feels a tad small which is surprising considering the leggy model manages to make this look work.

This is mostly Florence’s fault due to the turned up sleeves on her blazer and her chunky shoe choice.

I’m also missing the black satin bow-tie which perfected the look.

Love or loathe?

Wow! She looks AMAZING!!! Love love love this look!

  2. Lara J March 1, 2012 at 10:33 #

Love. But ditto on missing the black bow-tie, that would have been perfection.

It’s her posture that makes the suit look small. I’m not a fan of the pant length combined with a flare (too many bad flashbacks to the early 2000s), but I do like the rest.

Yes, you are right. The posture throws it off

It’s hard to describe how much I dislike this look. I’m as tall as you FC and I imagine Florence Welsh to be quite tall as well. And those pants are just NOT for us! What is elegance on the runway is turned into something looking like it should be a costume on That’s 70′s Show. I don’t like it.
That hair is great though. Finally not parted in the center :-)

    • Fashion Critic March 1, 2012 at 11:30 #

Agreed. They are not for us.

So right! That was why it reminded me of the early 2000s. I am also really tall and hadn’t yet discovered the tall options for trousers back then. Those were trying times:-)
        Thank god for skinny jeans…

I don’t loathe and like quite a bit but I think the pant length is off. Looking at the proportion on the model, I think Florence should have taken the length up just a tad. The shoes aren’t great. Knees up I love this and loving her hair colour.

she’s been looking really unimpressive lately.

I think if the trousers would be fitted even this length would be ok. The flare ruins it for me.
Otherwise I like it actually a lot. Even the shoes.

Loathe. It’s unflattering, most of all the length of the pants.

  9. CreoleLady March 1, 2012 at 13:37 #

Loathe. If the pants had been straight-legged or pegged, maybe – although imo the floral is still too much for me. But the pants are flared. The flares cannot be seen on the model, possibly because she is moving. But on Florence, they look like unfortunate high-waters.

I like the print, but would prefer it in a dress as the top/pants combo is just too costumey. On Florence, it looks really bad, as it is all the wrong fit and she removed a key element (the black tie).

Aren’t the pants the same length on the model? I like this look.

  12. bas March 1, 2012 at 15:21 #

I miss the bow.tie too, but I do like the heels.

  13. gusmex March 1, 2012 at 15:46 #

and a clear face, that can help

  14. Moxie March 1, 2012 at 16:18 #

Loathe. You’re right about the length of the pants and sleeves, FC. The way she’s wearing it makes it looks like it shrunk in the wash.

  15. Jones19 March 1, 2012 at 18:13 #

The pose and posture are just terrible…

  16. jane March 1, 2012 at 18:18 #

I think with big, bold outfits like the one on the runway it’s best to copy the look exactly as shown instead of trying to add your own embellishments. The black ribbon helps provide a focal point in a sea of big print and without it my eyes get lost. Also, Florence’s suit doesn’t fit as well as the runway version and with that much print going on the cut needs to be perfection.

She looks horrendous….. but on the plus side she did not part her bangs in the middle ;-)

    love

She didn’t quite bring it to life, though I can’t say I loathe the look. Her face somehow ruined the look a bit more. Maybe it’s just the photo. I must say that some girls only look great from the neck down – great body but a not-so-feminine face. Florence, Lucy Punch and America’s Cristine Baranski are examples.

  20. CeCe March 2, 2012 at 03:42 #

Does anyone else think she always looks really old for her age?

  21. Natalie March 2, 2012 at 05:00 #

I think it looks amazing! Complete upgrade from her pastel ethereal phase.

  22. Jo March 2, 2012 at 18:32 #

LOL, I’m also 5’11″ and have a huge aversion to wearing anything that just looks like it’s too short for me – very tall people can maybe do cropped trousers OR cropped jacket but certainly not both together!

    • Fashion Critic March 2, 2012 at 18:51 #

I’m the same. It just looks wrong on tall people

  23. Pen March 3, 2012 at 08:33 #

Call me cuckoo but I love this look on Florence.

  24. bianca March 7, 2012 at 22:32 #
