With the exception of your award to Gwyneth (if only the cape were part of the dress(!), i would totally agree) I love your insight. Perfectly done.
such good choices.. completely agreed FC. Especially love Milla Jovovich – Elie Saab is amazing!
LMAO @ “JLo half empty award” and “The Lea Michele Look at Me Pose Award”
FC you are turning into a regular Joan Rivers (except you still have all your original body parts)
lol..you are so funny x
Also FC, did you see Anika Noni Rose at Elton John’s party? Who was she wearing?
I didn’t see her
I don;t know. sorry
Basil Soda, from the spring summer 2012 colelction.
She looks rather good.
Emma Stone should get the best makeup award too
Anti Leiber award? Anybody care to fill me in on what that means? Anyway love these posts, very funny
Judith Leiber make clutches. Jessica never carries a clutch, hence the Anti-Leiber award
love this round ups,and thx again for all your fab work. You are “Simply the best”as Tina Turner sings.
That song will be in my head all day now
LOVE Gwyneth’s dress the most, less is more and simply the best!!!
Milla Jovovich, Michelle Williams and Glenn Close were good too!
The post is very funny! I agree completely! Gwyneth Paltrow is my best dressed too! I don’t get why Yahoo! gave her a D! They’re not legit fashion critics anyway!!!! I love visiting your site! More power FC!
Thank you for your coverage and your hard work FC. Just like last year I am spending the days following the Oscars, browsing on your website, looking forward new updates when I am actually supposed to be working! I don’t know why but this year seems to be even better than last year.
I am looking forward to the Oscar 2013 coverage already!
I meant to say : “I don’t know why but this year’ COVERAGE seems to be even better than last year.”
I got it… thanks
I love you new awarding system! I almost forgot about Penelope but for me she was one of the best on the night, but the one who I literally can’t stop thinking about in Glenn Close, she has never looked better and is probably in my top 3 of the night, and Octavia was flawless as well.
Again, thanks so much for your tireless work, I honestly really appreciate and it’s just such a shame that people still seem to ask for your coverage of this person & that person. Are you going to Paris fashion week? With all teh recent LVMH changes the energy must be electric!
Yes I am going to Paris. I leave tomorrow morning. Can’t wait.
FC just want to say what a great job you’re doing! Xx
very kind. thank u
Not only are you fantastic at what you do, you keep getting better at it. Thanks FC, you’re my daily tonic!
Thank you Yinka x
Amazing as always, Catherine. Totally agree with Gwyneth as Best Dressed. While I loved Emma Stone, her dress did feel like the love child of Jlo’s Gucci and Nicole’s Balenciaga. From now on Jessica Chastain will be nicknamed ‘Anti Leiber-witz.’Hope you’re coping with your PTASSD (post traumatic/awards seasons stress disorder).
like what you did there
Natalie Portman looks like she got her dress from JC Penney. Not just because it’s ugly but also because the hem is messed up.
very good choice, but my best dressed is Jessica Chastain.
thank you for your wonderful work and your comments always fair or funny.
I hope you’re well rested, or are you going to rest after all that work.
kisses from a french girl.
I am well rested and ready for round 4 of fashion week in Paris x
Just last week I proclaimed that I didn’t care for any of Vivienne Westwood’s dresses, but I take it back. The “Black Beauty” dress was wonderful!
And Glenn Close looked great in that color… sorry for the French actress (with such possibilities) looking so very blah. A different hairdo could have helped.
Michelle Williams deserves more than just a “Best Clutch” nod. Her dress was fab! But I agree with everything else.
I really don’t agree with Natalie Portman. Her dress choice, while pretty and very different, isn’t really all that wonderful to merit her a spot in best dressed lists. She tried something different and unique, and that is commendable especially during the Oscars, but it was pretty flat for me :/
I totally agree with the rest of your choices though:)
I think i heard on E!´s red carpet show that Rose Byrne´s dress was midnight blue, although it translated to black on camera.
“The Anti-Leiber Award” – LOL.
Absolutely in LOVE with Glenn Close here!
You will get Jessica to carry a clutch one day, I know you will succeed!!! Some great laughs, I needed that this morning, love the jlo half empty, and the Lea Michele pose awards too, perfect!
thanks. Think of me as your online cup of Joe. x
Love your awards, though I still think Jessica Chastain was the best dressed, even without a clutch. Somehow I found this whole Oscar year a tad flat, including the fashion–maybe because I didn’t feel very passionate about any of the nominated films and I think The Artist, while entertaining, was not really the film of the year. But you have made me take a closer look at the fashion and appreciate it more. Thanks for all your hard work–you have been like a rocket!
glad you enjoyed it x
I’m glad that pure, simple, elegance won over “I have hot legs / twins” Gwyneth was the best, indeed, as well as Milla Jovovich…
and speaking of the “Look at Me pose”, I found this hilarious: http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m01f2lASaw1qaqll1o1_500.jpg ))
Great job, Fashion Critic! I check your blog every single day…
lol…that picture is everywhere
In honor of Jessica Chastain, we shall create a new word just for her: saccophobia, or the fear of bags. Clutch, purse, anything that has a handle or hold any necessities… her hands trembles in fear because they have better things to do than carrying such things.
that’s a good one
I’m amazed how much better some gowns look in motion then they do in photos. Ugh, the things people have to think about when choosing a dress.
While I absolutely agree with Gwyneth getting the BDA, the fact that she’s the best dressed shows how poorly dressed the event was.
These categories are hilarious! Fantastic Coverage, it gets better every year! Thank you
Wondering if anyone else noticed two things that have been bugging me since seeing all the femmes avec frocks:
1. The hem on Natalie Portman’s dress is too high at the front revealing the layer under the polka dot fabric. For me this cheapens the couture considerably and makes it feel like her mum hemmed a hand-me-down.
2. Berenice’s posture (as well as the hair) kill the Elie Dress. Given the it has little structure in the bodice she really (and I mean REALLY) needed to throw her shoulders back. The round shoulders make her (and the dress) look frumpy.
That is all.
haha classic! i have been loving your round ups cant wait to see your highs & lows of the last three fashion weeks! enjoy paris x
amazing coverage – as always I agree with every word you say. but still I found this years ceremony particularly flat and uninspiring. the looks on the oscar parties were so much better! thanks for your outstanding work, FC, have a great time in Paris!
Thank you…I will.
I’m glad you enjoyed the coverage
