Zoe Saldana In Marios Schwab – 2012 Vanity Fair Oscar Party

Zoe Saldana attended the 2012 Vanity Fair Oscar party, which was held at the Sunset Tower in California yesterday evening.

She donned a Marios Schwab Fall 2012 gown which was presented last week during London Fashion Week.

The satin-and-sheer fresh-off-the-runway look features Swarovski Elements, which means that Zoe didn’t have to select any additional jewels, but she added Pomellato earrings and a simple ring.

She decided to wear her hair down on this occasion and accessorized with a grey croc clutch.

I love Zoe’s vampy red lips, but is anyone else wishing this look was strapless?

This is such a depressing dress. Absolutely ugly.

    • Peter February 27, 2012 at 12:46 #

Whaaaat? it is stunning! are you blind or tasteless? or both? hahaha

      • mandy February 27, 2012 at 14:16 #

Obviously I’m not blind nor am I tastless. im just different from you.

        • Fashion Critic February 27, 2012 at 14:19 #

          well said Mandy

        • Peter February 27, 2012 at 14:30 #

          Totally agree!!

          • Peter February 27, 2012 at 14:31 #

I am sure you liked Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Lopez! :)

    • Carolina Roq February 27, 2012 at 13:16 #

Agreed. Oh God, it’s so bad.

      • Peter February 27, 2012 at 13:43 #

She chose a risky and interesting piece, and she got it right. Oscars dressing is sooooooo boring, all those long evening gowns full of meaningless details.
        A brave election!

    • J February 27, 2012 at 13:51 #

      Agree. Ugly and weird.

    • bm February 27, 2012 at 14:10 #

      Yeah, remove the sheer, please!!

    • EmmaWoodhouse February 27, 2012 at 14:40 #

      +1 I agree! I don’t like it…the satin/sheer combo is odd and frumpy.

      • Errun February 29, 2012 at 15:20 #

        Ditto

    • Jones19 February 27, 2012 at 15:19 #

I’m with you Mandy. Ugliest dress I’ve seen on the red carpet in a long time.

    • Nat39 February 27, 2012 at 17:29 #

Agreed. Gloomy, dreary, old and depressing esp. combined with that hair (it should’ve been neatly pulled back).

    • Shaina February 29, 2012 at 00:15 #

I agree with you Mandy, I do not like this dress at all. It’s atrocious.

  2. GirlOne February 27, 2012 at 11:40 #

This dress is a mess. It’s all over the place, stylewise.

  3. arwa February 27, 2012 at 11:46 #

The only thing I wish Zoe did is pulling her hair back in any possible way

    • Mol February 27, 2012 at 14:36 #

      I agree

  4. eimearoconnor February 27, 2012 at 13:05 #

Love it, love the slight tuxedo feel to this dress, I love it with the sleeves and collar… without it wouldnt be as interesting

  5. Lena February 27, 2012 at 13:06 #

I like it, but I’m not sold on the crystal embellishment, especially the neck finish, I lkie the tulle but not the choker thing.

  6. dee February 27, 2012 at 13:45 #

Not too crazy about this gown it’s kinda awkward looking. She can do much better.

  7. AW February 27, 2012 at 14:13 #

It is a weird dress but she definitely pulled it off!

  8. Hannah February 27, 2012 at 14:31 #

:O she looks bad. Genuinely bad.

  9. Hannah February 27, 2012 at 14:48 #

She looks stunning! nice election, I just saw Marios Schwab collection on style.com and it’s one of my faves for AW12.

Fashion is art. You either “get it” or you don’t. You either like it or you don’t. With this piece, I “get it” but I don’t necessarily “like it.” Zoe Saldana, however, breaks all the rules and ultimately she is a work of art herself.

Marios is a designer that I really want to like but I’m struggling to figure out his identity. I’m glad that he found Zoe to “represent” his label at this event. She can make almost anything work. However, I’m not sure it totally worked here. I wish she styled her hair as the model did.

  12. hauteness February 27, 2012 at 15:51 #

    oh gosh, I HATE

  13. hauteness February 27, 2012 at 15:54 #

oh gosh, I hate it. its the most unflattering thing she’s ever worn.

  14. MsDivaMom February 27, 2012 at 16:11 #

    Horrible.

  15. Rebecca Z February 27, 2012 at 16:35 #

I like the sheer top and the little cap sleeves. What I don’t like is the way the satin parts in the middle into those two flat panels–it looks too stiff. But agree that she is adventurous and this is an example. I do think it would have looked better with her hair up

  16. Bren February 27, 2012 at 16:50 #

I think it’s awful! Looks matronly and I could use a WHOLE LOT more crystals to make a story about it! Are mirrors hard to come by in Hollywood????

  17. lou February 27, 2012 at 17:02 #

I’m finding the dress a tad dull too – Zoe can do much better than this – her 2010 Oscar gown (I think it was Givenchy?) was AMAZING… and had so much drama too! This is a big disappointment in comparison

  18. Leti February 27, 2012 at 18:19 #

    I hate this.

  19. goldfish February 27, 2012 at 18:44 #

the dress is horrible…. it looks wrinkled, off and unfinished.. eek

  20. Deena February 27, 2012 at 18:49 #

    Oh hell no.

  21. hally February 27, 2012 at 23:15 #

ugh, it pains me so much to say i hate this! i love zoe and her style is amazing, but this dress just fails. i can see where they’re trying to go with this dress, but the execution is just terrible. it looks cheap, both in fabric and construction! it looks like it needs to be ironed and that the swarovski elements were hot glued on as an afterthought. poor zoe!

  22. kiwi February 28, 2012 at 08:37 #

    Fails completely

  23. Lilo February 29, 2012 at 09:24 #

Disagree. I’m loving the sheer part of the dress. Otherwise it’d be just another dress with an identity crisis. I think the sheer panel and neckline pull it together.

  24. Parvati February 29, 2012 at 23:59 #

I don’t like this dress at all. There’s so much going on, it seems like it’s trying to be several different styles at the same time.

  25. Jen March 12, 2012 at 05:07 #

I don’t think making it strapless would be enough to save it. It’s just a straight up awkward weird dress.

  26. mememe March 28, 2012 at 16:45 #

Ditch the pocket jewelry and the sheer train and this dress would be a sweet lbd.
