Zoe Saldana attended the 2012 Vanity Fair Oscar party, which was held at the Sunset Tower in California yesterday evening.
She donned a Marios Schwab Fall 2012 gown which was presented last week during London Fashion Week.
The satin-and-sheer fresh-off-the-runway look features Swarovski Elements, which means that Zoe didn’t have to select any additional jewels, but she added Pomellato earrings and a simple ring.
She decided to wear her hair down on this occasion and accessorized with a grey croc clutch.
I love Zoe’s vampy red lips, but is anyone else wishing this look was strapless?

This is such a depressing dress. Absolutely ugly.
Whaaaat? it is stunning! are you blind or tasteless? or both? hahaha
Obviously I’m not blind nor am I tastless. im just different from you.
well said Mandy
Totally agree!!
I am sure you liked Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Lopez!
Agreed. Oh God, it’s so bad.
She chose a risky and interesting piece, and she got it right. Oscars dressing is sooooooo boring, all those long evening gowns full of meaningless details.
A brave election!
Agree. Ugly and weird.
Yeah, remove the sheer, please!!
+1 I agree! I don’t like it…the satin/sheer combo is odd and frumpy.
Ditto
I’m with you Mandy. Ugliest dress I’ve seen on the red carpet in a long time.
Agreed. Gloomy, dreary, old and depressing esp. combined with that hair (it should’ve been neatly pulled back).
I agree with you Mandy, I do not like this dress at all. It’s atrocious.
This dress is a mess. It’s all over the place, stylewise.
The only thing I wish Zoe did is pulling her hair back in any possible way
I agree
Love it, love the slight tuxedo feel to this dress, I love it with the sleeves and collar… without it wouldnt be as interesting
I like it, but I’m not sold on the crystal embellishment, especially the neck finish, I lkie the tulle but not the choker thing.
Not too crazy about this gown it’s kinda awkward looking. She can do much better.
It is a weird dress but she definitely pulled it off!
:O she looks bad. Genuinely bad.
She looks stunning! nice election, I just saw Marios Schwab collection on style.com and it’s one of my faves for AW12.
Fashion is art. You either “get it” or you don’t. You either like it or you don’t. With this piece, I “get it” but I don’t necessarily “like it.” Zoe Saldana, however, breaks all the rules and ultimately she is a work of art herself.
Marios is a designer that I really want to like but I’m struggling to figure out his identity. I’m glad that he found Zoe to “represent” his label at this event. She can make almost anything work. However, I’m not sure it totally worked here. I wish she styled her hair as the model did.
oh gosh, I HATE
oh gosh, I hate it. its the most unflattering thing she’s ever worn.
Horrible.
I like the sheer top and the little cap sleeves. What I don’t like is the way the satin parts in the middle into those two flat panels–it looks too stiff. But agree that she is adventurous and this is an example. I do think it would have looked better with her hair up
I think it’s awful! Looks matronly and I could use a WHOLE LOT more crystals to make a story about it! Are mirrors hard to come by in Hollywood????
I’m finding the dress a tad dull too – Zoe can do much better than this – her 2010 Oscar gown (I think it was Givenchy?) was AMAZING… and had so much drama too! This is a big disappointment in comparison
I hate this.
the dress is horrible…. it looks wrinkled, off and unfinished.. eek
Ditto.
I was hoping she would wear this dress : http://www.style.com/slideshows/2012/fashionshows/S2012CTR/CDIOR/RUNWAY/00230m.jpg.
Oh hell no.
ugh, it pains me so much to say i hate this! i love zoe and her style is amazing, but this dress just fails. i can see where they’re trying to go with this dress, but the execution is just terrible. it looks cheap, both in fabric and construction! it looks like it needs to be ironed and that the swarovski elements were hot glued on as an afterthought. poor zoe!
Fails completely
Disagree. I’m loving the sheer part of the dress. Otherwise it’d be just another dress with an identity crisis. I think the sheer panel and neckline pull it together.
I don’t like this dress at all. There’s so much going on, it seems like it’s trying to be several different styles at the same time.
I don’t think making it strapless would be enough to save it. It’s just a straight up awkward weird dress.
Ditch the pocket jewelry and the sheer train and this dress would be a sweet lbd.
