Rooney Mara In Givenchy Couture – 2012 Oscars

Rooney Mara’s signature red carpet look came full circle tonight at the 2012 Oscars, held in LA.

You may remember Rooney’s first big red carpet moment at the world premiere of ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’ in London, was a structured, white Givenchy Couture gown.

Countless premieres and red carpet appearances later, Rooney celebrates her ‘Best Actress’ nominee in another structured, white Givenchy Couture gown this time from the Spring 2009 collection.

It was widely guessed that Rooney would don Givenchy Couture for her big night, particularly in white or black, and she didn’t let us down.

While it may not be a surprise, Rooney still looks stunning.

You have to give the young actress credit for staying true to her signature style, and doing it so well.

Blunt bangs, Fred Leighton jewels and a red lippie finish the look.

She looked gorgeous! I don’t love the structure on the bust but I love the bottom.

I was actually disappointed by this outfit. I didn’t really mind the mostly monochromatic looks she’s been opting for during the awards season, but I expected more from her for the Oscars. I think this looks washes her out a bit and I don’t like the top half of the dress.

  3. Alina February 28, 2012 at 13:49 #

    I love it!

  4. Carolina Roq February 27, 2012 at 14:11 #

    very boring, as usual

  5. Sofia February 27, 2012 at 14:00 #

I don’t like the dress, it is boring. The only thing interesting, was the back.
The hair looks gross, the girl is not pretty.
    Fail for me.

like a dove but not loving it for some reasons…

  7. Airi February 27, 2012 at 07:13 #

She bought this gown at the last minute, Sunday morning. She didn’t fail. It looks nice and I’m glad her make up is okay. But she should have worn some earrings. 🙁

  8. noo February 27, 2012 at 04:14 #

    not a good look imo

  9. bm February 27, 2012 at 03:29 #

Kudos for taking another pose, 🙂
But, i want her to be different tonight.

  10. Sonya February 27, 2012 at 02:46 #

I love her, she’s such a pretty zombie bride.

  11. Magdalena February 27, 2012 at 02:32 #

She looks good, but i wish she’d changed it up for once. Also, Joan Smalls wore the runway version back in 2010, at the closing of Marina Abramovic’s “The artist is present” exhibition.

  12. Mol February 27, 2012 at 02:05 #

The top part really hangs on her, shouldn’t have missed that last pre Oscar fitting….too bad, I love Rooney….

  13. Katey February 27, 2012 at 01:46 #

I’m amazed by this dress on her, with her red lips and pale skin but I don’t like her bangs at all.

Somebody called Lego hair. Exactly. I have the same feeling.

So it’s not perfection because of her hair.

Love Rooney but of all the Givenchy gowns why this one??

  15. mm February 27, 2012 at 01:22 #

On TV she was lifeless in this for me. She did nothing for this beautiful dress.

  16. Christine February 27, 2012 at 01:21 #

I LOVE the back of her dress.

  17. Rory February 27, 2012 at 01:17 #

FC I think Viola is wearing Vera Wang??? The design looks familiar.

I LOVE teh dress, and I gt it on her, but I’m so disappinted by this.
I feel like onyl someone really statuesque needed to wear this, someone 5’9 or more, not 5’3.
Also, she has a greta body, but I feel like spanx would hae helped her suck in the few extra inches, or milimeters as the case probably is here, to make hte gown mroe streamline dnad therefore make hte height issue seem less immediate.
It’s also way too similar to the Givenchy that she wore at the premiere a few weeks ago.

The fit is awful and the dress makes her look short. Her hair is also awful. Its too bad because if someone taller wore this and it fit, it would be amazing.

  20. Carla February 27, 2012 at 01:13 #

Nope–on the red carpet it looked ill-fitting and lifeless. She breathed no life into it.

  21. EmmaWoodhouse February 27, 2012 at 01:12 #

The way the neckline sits makes it look like it needs to be hiked up (and I AM sick of plunging necklines, but that’s not the problem, here it just looks like it’s hanging) but the skirt is LOVELY. She really scored on the hair and makeup here! The bangs are FINALLY working! 🙂

  22. karine February 27, 2012 at 01:12 #

She looks beautiful, in a very Snow White way. Her makeup is perfect

  23. JacobGH February 27, 2012 at 01:11 #

I want to like it but it really accentuates her lack of chest :/ Big missed opportunity.

  24. Luisa February 27, 2012 at 01:11 #

    Sooo gorgeous!!!!

  25. Molly February 27, 2012 at 01:10 #

while I love Givenchy and Rooney’s style, this dress on the bodice is so ill fitting. It makes her breasts look like they are sagging to her hips.
    The runway version, however, ahhh-mazing

    • Kennedy February 27, 2012 at 06:13 #

LOL. Yeah the boob area is pretty awful. I much prefer her first Givenchy gown look to this. I really don’t like this gown to be honest. It is the Oscars for crying out loud, any of her other looks would have sufficed… the red Valentino would have been PERFECT.

  26. Paddy M February 27, 2012 at 01:09 #

Kelly Osbourne nearly collapsed when she saw Rooney Mara in something other than black. Just goes to show how little she knows about red carpet fashion…

  27. Tiger Nueng February 27, 2012 at 01:09 #

    Really amazing!

  28. Ramsay February 27, 2012 at 01:09 #

Well done – I prefer her premiere look but that’s very good – and agree bravo for staying true to her style

    • anna nevory February 27, 2012 at 01:28 #

the premiere look was outstanding, but she looks beautiful in today’s look too!

  29. Raquel February 27, 2012 at 01:08 #

Not impressed and the lack of jewelry always baffle me.

  30. Jones19 February 27, 2012 at 01:08 #

She looks amazing. The minimalism is pure heaven.

  31. robbie February 27, 2012 at 01:08 #

surprised im saying this but minus the hair she looks beautiful, but the lego hair is really bad.

  32. Mahima February 27, 2012 at 01:07 #

She looks really nice. It’s weird that she can basically wear the same thing over and over again, but still doesn’t bore me.

    Her sister looks better.

  33. Rory February 27, 2012 at 01:06 #

    What a gorgeous night gown.

    • Camille February 27, 2012 at 15:27 #

Ditto! Was expecting more so I was disappointed. This dress definitely looks like a nightgown on her and a poorly fitted one at that.

  34. Laura Brice February 27, 2012 at 01:06 #

The dress makes her look really short. I think the fishtail at the end of the gown needs to be lower as it cuts off her legs at the worst possible spot
