Cate Blanchett was in New York City last night attending the opening reception for the ‘Ever Changing Face of Beauty’ video installation by Solve Sundsbo, hosted by Stefano Tonchi, Editor in Chief of W magazine.
The Australian actress appears to have been widening her selection of designers recently and this occasion was no different as she donned a Juan Carlos Obando Fall 2012 dress which hit the runway just 7 days ago.
Now that’s fast, even for someone of Cate’s calibre.
Her black chiffon dress with a textured bodice, a shimmering silver panel, plus a white panel on the skirt and a flash of lime, was styled with gold Christian Louboutin peep-toes.
There is something very Rodarte-esque about this dress, but the Queen wears it well.
A side-swept updo and hot red lips completed her look.

The dress is nice, but I don’t like it on Cate.
What a sloppy looking dress, and those gold pumps absolutely do not belong with it. Not a good choice for Cate, in my opinion.
+1. My eye is everywhere. A mess.
I have to agree with that too on all three points.
Absolutely agreed. Not her style, poor fit, shoes don’t style dress well and she is completely washed out!
I don’t like this at all. I think the styling really lets her down.
To me, it looks like her underwear is showing (top AND bottom). And it may be the angle or something but the shoes don’t do her legs any favors.
I don’t like this dress on her.
I am not loving this either.
the dress looks like something i would have made for my barbies when i was 9
As much as I love this look on Cate, she still isn’t up to her usual higher than all others standard.
The lips feel random to me, she needed another flash of reddish pink, via her nails, her shoes or a clutch, to make them work.
I don’t like the dress, but Cate still looks statuesque
The hottest mess
Cate looks stunning. I liked both !
I love Cate Blanchett. She is totally classy. A goddess. And extraordinary actress. Iconic.
+1
Wow. Seems I’m in the minority here, but I love it.
What was the point of this dress? It is so sloppy!
Far, far too much going on here.
Quite unattractive.
What’s that?I thought that Cate could wear ny kind of dress, but this one is awful.Cate saves the look with her royal attitude as always.
Kate saved the dress with her grace and poise.
On its own, the dress is way busy and needs some editing.
I like the dress but Cate’s styling is not so good. The gold heels clash with the silver in the dress and the orange lips are just too bright.
I love it! Great dress
it could just be the photo, I would really like to have seen this dress up close and personal, it might make more sense
I would love to see this dress on someone like Leighton Meester.
