There were no tea-dresses or feathers presented during the Jason Wu Fall 2012 presentation yesterday.
The girlie girl maestro surprised us by kick starting the show with the opening of two large red doors, a puff of smoke and the sound of a gong, before the models stormed the runway – hard and fast.
This presentation was broken down into three themes: Mao military, Qing Dynasty and ‘40s Hollywood version of China.
Military jackets were glamorized with fur accents, quilting or a black lace.
In reference to Qing Dynasty bold shouldered sheaths inspired by traditional Chinese cheongsam dresses in gold brocades or embellished with elaborate Swarovski Elements took the runway.
More Swarovski Elements were to be had on the luxe eveningwear part of this collection, which including a stunning black gown with a thigh-high split and embellished shoulders.
We also saw belted coats, capes, leather pants, leather coats with fur collars, fitted pants and a beautiful brocade suit with a fur collar.
The Jason Wu woman still resides uptown, but she has a bit more attitude.
Key accessories included leather gloves, studded belts, bags and clutches, black tassel earrings and red tassel hats.

Maybe “Shailene Woodley + Jason Wu = Oscars love” ? If so, I hope she wears the electric blue dress from his spring 2012 collection.
I love all your picks, they seem spot on to me!
Nice to see a little “bite” in this JW collection. He needed to spread his wings a bit.
Were you shocked (in a good way) to see the collection coming out? I was just looking at it online. It feels like a big departure from his usual style.
Wow shailene woodley front row, hope thats a sign for the oscars!!!
i love how these high street collaborations re-energize these fashion houses. this stands as the most imaginative and fresh collections we’ve seen from him yet….
I died when I saw the red dress on the top row…fingers crossed it comes out to play at the Oscars!
The so-called ‘traditional’ tight fitting qipao or cheongsam has a short history of less than a 100 years and was derived from Manchurian dress of the Qing Dynasty. It’s highly misleading of some Chinese people to brand this as traditional.
I miss his sweet-girly aesthetic.
The dress you picked for Diane Kruger is kind of cool, though!
I have to say it again, your picks are wonderful, especially Florence. Also, the very first look I would love to see on Diane Kruger.
Love this collection and I think your four picks above are spot on!!
thank you x
love the sonam kapoor and blake lively dresses
