Yao Chen attended the Sina Microblogging event in Beijing on Wednesday evening.
The actress wore a standout Prabal Gurung Spring 2012 cocktail dress, paired with silver Miu Miu pumps.
This surreal floral-print silk georgette embroidered dress has an exposed back plus exploding tulle petals, French knots, plastic and embroidered hand-painted latex razor paillettes.
Somehow, Yao manages to make all that detail completely elegant, and almost – dare we say – simple.
While the runway version adds a bit more shape and toughness to the dress with a corset-esque black leather belt and matching black shoes, Yao keeps her look ladylike with a slick bun and large white clutch.

prefere look on the model much more
I like the runway styling way better. Too bad she didn’t wore a belt and black shoes.
her name is YAO CHEN actually…
btw i don’t like the pumps, she looks beautiful though, i think
thank you
Yes, yes, but what on earth is that guy wearing????
OMG, what IS he wearing??? As for Yao Chen, it’s too frou-frou for my taste.
I don’t like the fact that the only black thing are the straps on the dress. Something is missing to compliment those straps in my opinion.
I really dislike the dress on her, it’s not so bad on the runway with the black elements, but it’s just not that nice a dress. I also dislike what her friend is wearing.
I agree, I think it needed the belt.
The runway styling is much better. The way Yao Chen is styled looks like a child playing dress up. It’s too sweet for my taste.
I like it the way it is on the runway with the black belt. She needed to add the belt and black sandals to toughen up the look somewhat.
I don’t know if this is just because I really fell in love with the Prabal Gurung runway collection, but I’m always feeling like the dresses on the carpet are always falling short of the dresses on the runway.
The dress is great, but I definitely preferred the styling on the model.
I’d have preferred it belted (not necessarily the runway one) but she does pull off a difficult look well. On the fence about the shoes.
This dress needed the belt.
I actually like it without the belt!
+1 exactly. My dream dress when I was 7.
I agree.
I prefer Yao`s elegant approach (over the toughened-up runway`s, it`s actually the model who looks more like she`s playing a dress-up to me). The silver pumps, however, are a bit too princessy sweet – would`ve preferred delicate silver sandals.
i agree about the belt. I do like the colours for her though.
I definitely prefer the runway version, but I love the dress so much so I like it on Yao too! She should’ve kept the belt and black shoes though!
Would LOVE to have seen this one someone like Leighton Meester instead. She would have looked perfect. Here it looks like a mother has gone through her child’s dress-up chest…
Interesting choice in the winter
