The beautiful You Da One singer cut her post-tour Barbadian vacation short to ring in 2012 in Miami with P. Diddy and pals, rocking a rather questionable ensemble—and an even more questionable hairstyle.
We get that a deep keyhole neckline deserves top billing, but piling dip-dyed corkscrew curls atop of her head wouldn’t have been our go-to style in the slightest.
Why? Three simple reasons.
1) It aged her, especially when paired with a lacy long-sleeved frock that hit below the wrists and the knees—could her overall look been any more matronly?
2) Curly bangs rarely work, particularly those that are sparse and spread far apart on either side of the forehead.
3) High ponytails are best left for the sidewalk, the schoolyard, the sauna, or the sea. (Unless it’s fashioned into a topknot, which we LOVE!)
Is it just us? Or would a low bun have been a far better option?—India-Jewel Jackson

I prefer the ringlets to many of her previous styles but she definitely could’ve styled them better here. This is not flattering.
It’s a very wrong look (although I appreciate her trying to hide her HUGE forehead)!
I have very similar curly hair so (the bangs aside) I can’t fault Rihanna for this style.
Besides, I’m more appalled by her friend’s cornrows in the back.
Actually, I think they look really cute on her.
Undoubtedly beyond horrid. Nonetheless, I would say that for most of her style choices.
I agree. It might be the fact that she smiles. It’s not very often that she shows us a sweeter face. She seems calm and I like it, or at least I’m not that bothered by her hairstyle.
Haaaaaaaaa!
Yes, those cornrows ought to be illegal. And I have curly hair too; my curls are piled high atop my head as I type. Girls with curls rule the world!
Agreed, these curls look dreadful.
Totally agreed, but I don’t usually like her hairstyling.
I think she looks absolutely gorgeous, natural smiling face, shows just how pretty she really is… and i cant even focus with the braided sharon stone minger in the background!! Riri your beautiful as usual!
Oooppsss! Everytime I type a +1 it goes to the wrong comment. This one meant to be for justme and Rebecca Z
It’s her natural hair, I don’t see a problem with it.
The woman in the back should be the real focus of this article. YIKES.
Let’s focus on the more important issue here…lady on the right in background. Would you, please?! I mean…is there…what is…are there…WORDS someone please help me!
My previous comment was a reply to Rebecca Z.
I dont think this ages her, I think it makes her look like a child playing dress up.
I was just about to say that! I think thats the real issue here! lol
(You guys do know that this isn’t her real hair either… Yes it looks more natural, but these are still very much extensions…) I felt the need to “whisper” that!
I totally disagree, she looks absolutely stunning, beauty and style. Love her natural an playful hair especially.
Ditto, Molly. This is not a type of a hairstyle that would age, if anything it makes her look like a young girl (“belongs in a schoolyard” as specified in reason 3) trying on a free-spirited grandma´s (considering the deep keyhole) clothes.
I agree with you, at least she doesn’t seem to wear a wig or be ready to shoot for a movie for adults.
Doesn’t the reply option work? I wanted to reply to a comment but it’s been posted like a post, not a reply.
It is being worked on. Not everything fell into place
I don’t minde the hair,it’s cute,girly
So Wrong!! but compared to the women in the white dress behind her… so right! Who invited her?
Haaaaaaaaaaaaa Binkie!
I think the hair looks great, and not ageing at all.
I think her hair looks OK! What is wrong here is that someone is criticizing ringlet curls!!
My hair is naturally curly like that and for years I straightened it because I thought it just looked wrong no matter what I did with the curls! I don’t straighten it anymore but posts like these make me feel Bad again for my hair!
Maybe you have perfectly-straight-non-aging hair but not everyone has it and not everyone wants it
Hi Joana,
I have kinky curly hair myself, and I’ve rocked ringlets my entire life. I wear them loud and proud. I never intended to make anyone feel as if having curly hair is a bad thing—I actually subscribe to the Carrie Bradshaw theory in that girls with curls and cool and complicated—which I see as a GREAT thing.
Regarding the look above, I feel as if her hairstyle is aging, not her hair texture. Curls in themselves are quite youthful!
I hope this cleared up any confusion, as girls with curls rule the world!

Funny when you say ringlet I thought you were talking about the piercing we can all clearly see on her nipple.
I thinks she pulls it off perfectly
yeeeeaaah…. not a big fan of anything she is wearing. and yes, those ringlets are wrong.

Don’t have an issue so much with Rihanna’s ringlets. What’s wrong is that lady in the background with those bleach blonde cornrows. Oh, my!
