Nicholas Oakwell is a new designer which we can’t wait to see on the red carpet.
We recently told you about Nicholas following our discovery of his work during pThe Communications Store’s press preview.
He impressively graduated from the Epsom School of Art and Design where his entire final collection was bought by Harvey Nichols and featured in a Harpers & Queen spread at the desire of Hamish Bowles, the current American Vogue European Editor-at-Large.
Nicholas’ ability to mix structured necklines with feminine textures like ruffles, sequins, fur and pleats is exquisite. He recently debuted his first couture collection, which consisted of 18 different looks.
Look 17 was the most breathtaking and impressive of the presentation. The ombre ruffled skirt and structured beaded bodice sent us to gorgeous-gown heaven. We would love to see this on red carpet at the Oscars in February.
Nicholas also seems to be continuing the ballet-inspired trend. Black and nude feathers, pleats and feminine skirts all give a nod to ‘Black Swan’.
We can’t get enough of Nicholas’ feminine pieces and look forward to seeing his couture clothes on stars like Zoe Saldana, Gwyneth Paltrow, Anne Hathaway and more.

Those of you who watched ‘The X Factor’ will recognize this dress as it was worn by Kelly Rowland on the Saturday finale show.

Wow, really interesting collection. I didn’t know him, so thank you for this post, FC.
Personally, I would love to see a couple of these looks on Cate Blanchett.
Agree, Cate would be perfect for some of these looks!
+2! Cate needs to wear these! Very interesting and high fashion!!!
Some of these pieces are lovely, particularly the grey dress with the leather neckpiece and embroidered hem, which is truly sublime. The ombre ruffled gown is veering a little too close for comfort to what Riccardo Tisci showed his Spring/Summer 2010 collection for Givenchy Haute Couture, but his other pieces clearly show that this guy has some major talent.
+1. Im swooning all over again over the ombre ruffled gown. Incredible. Looking forward to more.
Look 17 is REALLY impressive and amazing. When I saw it, I immediately thought of Emma Watson. I wonder if she could pull that one off.
I love his designs. And I love Kelly in that dress too. She was beautiful.
The last dress is to die for.
I see Givenchy Couture in this line…
