Jennifer Hudson showcased a shorter ‘do on the red carpet for VH1’s Divas Celebrate Soul event at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City last night.
She donned a head-to-toe Francesco Scognamiglio Fall 2011 look.
I’m pretty confident my opinion won’t be shared, but I kinda like this.
It’s a huge departure from what we are used to seeing on JHud.
The event is about divas and this look has diva written all over it – from the sexy shimmering knit dress to the gold-embellished over-the-knee boots.
Somewhere JLo is fuming that she didn’t get her hands on this look first.
Does this look work for you?

What’s going on today? I usually share your opinions but I really dislike this look and Helen Mirren’s. This is not my FC!
Ha ha!
Simply hate it.
Given the venue, I really like it.
Yes it SCREAMS JLo but it’s so different for Jennifer Hudson. The hair is really cute on her too
The boots are soooo fab
well I honestly hate it too
idk why,,, but it looks just wrong for her =/
I think I see where this was going, but those boots are doing horrible things to her legs. They were simply not created fot her figure, and her feet look so confusingly small… I can’t see where they begin.
No.
I really like her hair. I like the length. It is better then the super long hair she’e been wearing. I would like this more it she wore different boots. I think they are a little too much.
No, no and no. There is so much wrong here. Is that a doily around her neck? And armadillos on her feet? She gets credit for choosing a beautiful color to wear and I like her bracelets but the rest is unfortunately tragic.
Ha! Armadillos. I could not put my finger on what those boots reminded me of, but yes, armadillos! That’s it!
Just thought I would add another “no”
too much going on, especially hate the choker neckline competing with the ruffles and earrings. and the dress looks pretty cheap too, but I love her new hair-do!
Not even close. She’s looking somewhere between a fancy table and a xmas tree lol…
I do love the first dress on the runway and don’t know why they changed the v-neck knit detail in JHud’s dress… it made it out of proportion and really weird.. plus, considering the choker and these boots, it’s impressive she still felt she needed to add accessories. and yellow ones, to top it of…
I agree with you that this is truly a divalicous outfit!
That aside, my opinion is that the ruffles around the neckline and the boots are competing with each other.
Had the neckline been more “clean” and the choker a bit more sparkly I would have like it more.
Just thankful she didn’t wear the dress that was presented with the boots… Hideous!
I really like the dress. But the boots are too heavy.
I would probably pair with 60s-inspired shoes – platform, chunky heel. Or the sandals from the first runway picture.
p.s. the hair is gorgeous.
Yep, it does just scream Jlo (I love the boots myself!) I don’t know how I feel about it, even after looking at it numerous times. She looks great, and this is a departure from what she usually wears, but I’m not sure I’m feeling it on her.
1. change earrings
2. take off bracelets
3. change shoes
ok, now i like it!
I would like this more minus the choker. Love the shorter hairstyle
Take the neck cuff and earrings away and this would have looked alot better.
i really love this look! it’s very diva and 70s and she’s committed to it fully with her accessories. my only problem is that i think the boots are really awful. if she were wearing other boots, perhaps?
I am guessing the theme was “Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman BEFORE the style make-over”?
lol
My head snapped so hard that I almost broke my neck Stop the presses. Oh yeah, definitely a JLo diva look. Love her hair. Love the boots. This is such a change that I’m just trying to adjust. Good for her, though, for channelling her inner diva. Totally event appropriate.
she looks like she should be “turning tricks” on the street corner.
Disliked the boots. Other than that, the look is fine by me.
I actually hate the whole look. The only person to be able to pull these boots off would be Anja Rubik IMO as she has the longest and the thinnest legs ever… The dress has a romantic feel to it with the laser cut ruffles and so I wish she just picked strappy embellished sandals to complement the dress. The rest is a complete overkill – too much ruffles, too much bling bling, too much shimmer and I hate the chocker… On the positive note – I love the hair and make up…
I can’t stand the way she always poses with her hands on her hips. To me that is the worst part of the look. That said though, the boots and choker aren’t workin’ for me with this dress. It looks kinda trashy…….
I cannot stand that pose either. I wish J.Lo was wearing this look, she’s the only woman who could work this.
Yikes. Just yikes.
Love the look…on the runway.
New hair is lovely.
So right : )
OMG!!! saw this and immediately thought of JLO!
I liked it until I finished reading all these comments and now I see the error of my first impression. Could it be that she just sold it to me so I liked it in spite of how bad it is?
Go with your gut instinct
Thanks, FC–I hope you have a very Merry Christmas, BTW!
You too Rebecca xx
I agree it screams JLo, but the difference is that JL would have opted for a different hairstyle, and would have given the look some diva attitude, that is why it think it doesn’t work for JHudson.
To me this is the worst possible way to channel the late 1960s!
Yes, you’re right, but she also looks like one of the futurisitc Jetsons.
Oh my god, this just about confirms all my doubts about her ‘style transformation.’ I literally can’t even say one good thing about it! Such a pity coz her body is BANGIN!!
Agreed… I like the hair but that’s where it ends. You’d think it would be easier to dress with that body but obviously not. Unfortunately I see her getting it wrong so much more than getting it right… what a shame.
No, no, no … and no.
amazing boots!
This doesn’t work for me at all. I think I would dislike it even if she hadn’t worn these boots (which are my main problem here).
i am with you on this FC! Girl is having fun & i like it: really event appropriate, & so over the top! especially those hoops.
all your comments didn’t change my mind, i actually love this.it’s something new and very daring for her.and it’s event appropriate.kudos for that!
