Emily Mortimer opted for a soft, ethereal look on the red carpet at the ‘Hugo’ LA premiere on Monday night.
The British actress wore a heavenly blush Valentino Spring 2012 gown with lemon and black embroidered details.
Whilst the gown is beautiful, there is something missing.
It bugged me for a while, but I think she needed to add a belt to define her waist, or a contrasting-coloured clutch to breathe some life into the look.
The nude pumps don’t help prevent it from feeling a tad one note.
Smoky eyes and wavy locks completed the look.
Gorgeous or washed out?

Who Was Your Best Dressed At The amfAR Cinema Against AIDS Gala?

I really am not a fan of the dress. As with pretty much all valentino clothes it is frumpy and old looking. The shoes are also pretty dire, but the hair and makeup is good.

+3. Dour.
Frumpy is right. The flowing sleeves and high neckline make her look like an old lady. She really needed a belt to cinch in her waist.
There is a reason why they made the dress see through at the bottom.
Agreed… the dress loses it’s appeal without the sheerness. Her alabaster skin also makes the sleeves look like they’re not sheer so the dress is not working in this instance. Her hair and make up is lovely though.
+1 when you say that it made sense, she should have worn sheer version. plus hair and shoes are no no for me.

This look just screams I DON’T WANT TO HAVE SEX EVER AGAIN!
FAIL.

it ages her about 20 years
ha ha, amazing comment
Totally agree, FC. That beautiful gown just looks lifeless on her. I think a belt and strappy sandal would’ve made all the difference!
I agree something is missing. I think its a pair of earrings, had she pulled her hair back.
amazing dress but it looks kind of boring on Emily. maybe a romantic chignon with nice earings + statement clutch + strappy sandals would have worked better
This pic confirms what I thought when I saw the show.
The collection is quite good but too monastic. Dresses are too high-necked and har would be much better in a messy up-do.
Frumpy looking, It’s the sleeves and shoes that bring it down for me.
It feels a bit washed out. I think a belt could have improved it.
Hair and make-up are nice, but not with this dress. In fact, the dress is totally wrong for her.
I thing Diane Kruger would have pulled it off with the braid, similar to the runway model’s hair.
i seem the only one who likes this look. It’s a beautiful dress and i think she does it justice.
Washed out, definitely.
I’m Dutch and even I know this is a Nancy Reagan dress!
I think she looks lovely and am thrilled to see her on here but I agree, this outfit definitely needs a belt.
Mother of the bride.
The dress is so bad. It does nothing for her.
Dreamy vs. snoozefest, I think & one of those times the runway look should’ve been copied more closely.
Something’s really wrong here. The dress is pretty, the girl is pretty, and yet when I look at the picture I see June Carter Cash (Johnny’s wife) — never a fashion icon.
June Carter Cash would have worn it better – the darker hair would at least give some contrast. The dress is washing Emily out in photographs – probably looked much better in person, although agree that the new Valentino designers are perpetrating some frumpy dresses.
