Shingai Shoniwa joined Kristen Stewart on the red carpet at the London premiere for ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn: Part 1’ last night.
The singer was invited as she recorded a track for the movie.
Known for her extravagant, scene stealing red carpet looks, I wasn’t surprised to see her wearing this Alpana & Neeraj Spring 2012 dress which was presented during India Fashion Week last month.
Her dress is called the Industrial 3D ‘Surgical Mask Mermaid’ because it is made entirely of surgical masks.
She made the look her own, and less clinical, by adding pretty floral accents on the straps, which she also playfully added to her hair.
Some of you crave for something more interesting and different on the red carpet, so what do you think of the ‘Surgical Mask Mermaid’?

I like it but it is very customey. The fit is perfection though. This dress is very Project Runway
Ditto
+2. Nina Garcia would have loved it, given the constraints of a medical supply room.
1st chanllenge dress
I agree, a project runway challenge! How comfortable could it be ?
Bottom line – it really flatters her figure, looks spectacular on her esp. against her skin tone – she can get away with it for sure. However, I don`t think the floral accents were needed here at all, they sorta turn the whole look into a joke. Simple clean “clinical” would`ve worked just fine.
far too stiff looking, and actually a rather ugly dress.
+1 I would even say a very ugly dress.
The stiffness puts me off it but I love the creativity that went into this.
Couldn’t have said it better myself! I don’t mind the floral accents either… but that’s probably because I saw Shingai’s look before I saw the original. I am biased in that way oftentimes…
I suspect that despite all the masks, wearing this in November, one might still catch cold.
This is the most hilarious comment. Thanks for the smile.
LOL
Not really a very pretty dress.
Not another lady gaga wannabe
That’s my sentiment. The dress is okay, interesting, costumey, but I do get a little tired of people just trying to do something to get themselves noticed, which is what this feels like.
Shingai has been adventurous with fashion long before Lady Gaga was even Lady Gaga. She’s just not as famous. Google Noisettes or just Shingai Shoniwa.
This is so cool… Quite strange, though…
i think it’s a very cool dress, but i don’t like her styling. I wish she would have gone edgier/funkier, instead romantic with the flowers. That seems somewhat contradictory to me.
I wouldn’t have thought those were surgical masks if you hadn’t said it! It makes a very interesting silhouette and the color is cool looking.
I think she looks divine and the color is beautiful against her skin tone. I would like to see what the back looks like. The dress is interesting and eye-catching for sure.

Thank you, FC. I am not too keen on the back, it looks like a sports bra.
I think this is fun. I mostly wanted to comment to point out how much better this looks on her over the model. It is like it was made for her figure.
Wow, ok, that just woke me up. I kinda love it. I guess GaGa has acclimated me to OTT looks on singers, lol. Costumey, yes, but perfectly fitted and customized with her own personal touches. Stunning figure and pretty smile.
This is a piece of art that can be worn. Going down that thought path, most artists will oversee the installation of their pieces, so you don’t wind up with something like this, where the floral accents seem to go counter to the whole notion of the piece. The gown is stunning and interesting – and stunning on her figure and against her skin tone. But I hate the florals.
I have to agree.
Great points!
This is really insane, but I quite like it!
I love Shingai! She’s got such attitude. She manages to pull off everything she wears, no matter how bananas it might be. I think it’s because she always looks so happy and like she’s having so much fun in what she’s wearing.
It’s okay. Not really loving it or hating it. It is interesting to look at for sure.
Hideous and too attention seeking for something that isn’t her premiere.
I like the dress but hate the flowers she added on. Also, I think she would look fab with her hair down and flowy. It would soften the dress.
It feels very fragile as if it is going to fall apart. Was she able to walk, sit, etc?
i think the color is perfect on her skin, but i hate the straps and the gown will definitely look red carpet worthy minus the cut-outs..her smile is infectious
Crazy and quirky but I love the color and it fits her so so well. I particularly love that she made this her own with the floral embellishment. She makes crazy look good
Is it Carnival already?
tbh i dont hate it – i mean its obviously not what i would chose first, but I’ve seen a lot worse more famous designers items been worn!
I actually find it quite garish, especially with the addition of the flowers.
That seafoam green could literally be coral from the ocean or masks from the hospital and either way it would be divine with her skin tone. It’s little mermaid meets mad men and god bless her for not going lady gaga and putting an actual mermaid tail and flippers on the thing!
the ideal dress for a doctor crossed with a fashionista
having said that.. i like the idea of the dress.. not the dress itself.. and the back is just not there..
i never liked this colour, but the dress and the styling is very beautiful.
fun and creative! i actually much prefer this dress on her rather than on the model.
