Video: Backstage At Alexander McQueen Spring 2012

I challenge you to watch this exclusive backstage video of the Alexander McQueen Spring 2012 show without developing a single goose-bump.

The short backstage film, created by young filmmaker Sean Frank, gives you a peek behind-the-scenes of Sarah Burton and the Alexander McQueen team preparing for the Spring 2012 runway show, which took place during Paris Fashion Week.

Marvel at the never-before-seen close-ups which demonstrate the couture-level craftsmanship of the collection.

The film captures the runway looks in motion and shows the details of signature McQueen prints, elaborate embellishments and the season’s soft colour palette – white, ivory, gold, lilac, blush and coral.

Enjoy.

This is spellbinding, awe-inspiring, truly incredible stuff. The feathering by hand of the ruffles on that red dress at 0.38 really says it all – although presented as a ready-to-wear show, most of these gowns will never go into store and will find themselves on women’s backs only on a made-to-measure basis, as they did with Lady Gaga at the BAMBI awards last week.

I never thought I’d say this (and certainly not after McQueen’s tragic demise), but Sarah Burton has so completely inhabited the McQueen ethos and aesthetic (although she has clearly feminised it) that this is now HER label and HER vision of what McQueen left the world. He must be so proud of her. His past, her future, perfection.

Sarah Burton really understood the philosophy behind McQueens moments of inspiration. She feminize the lines a little, but the essence of the house is intact and renew.
