Uma Thurman was one of the few not to wear Gucci on the red carpet for the 2011 LACMA Art and Film Gala in LA on Saturday night.
She wore a Lanvin Fall 2011 ensemble.
The pearl-white silk blouse with gathered shoulders was teamed with a long black silk-taffeta skirt with a bustle at the back.
This is a brave look for Uma. Most people would have been totally overwhelmed by this look.
You have to have a certain presence to pull it off, and Uma has that in spades.
Uma accessorized with Chopard oval diamond chandelier earrings and a black embellished clutch.
This is very much a marmite look.
You’ll either love it or hate it.
What say you?

I hate it.
FC,how do you feel?
I like it
loved the 1st photo. the back of the 2nd photo threw me off a bit. she looks gorgeous nonetheless.
+1
Well, how very Tilda of her. I absolutely adored the first photo, it has, fo rme, such greta impact, but then I saw the second photo and the other photos on getty and her posture is so, SO bad. I fele like there is a severe breeze pushing her forwards. Also,t eh fit of the top is only one that works for those of us who are not quite so well endowed.
yes, the pictures on Getty didn’t do her justice
she looks amazing in photo1
A small part of me is saying I should dislike this, but I love it! It’s not an easy look to work, but she does (I bet Tilda would too), and I love the bustle detail at the back. It’s not a safe choice I guess, which is why I love it so.
it’s such a Tilda look
i hate it. it looked so much better on the runway with the shorter skirt
I love it!
i like it… its a look tats hard to pull off… but she does it with ease…
Well I am not feeling it, but she seems to, so kudos for her.
i think a jacket with the shoulder detail can look good, is the only thing i like from this, sorry :S
absolutely gorgeous. like a queen!
Love the top, hate the skirt.
I wasn’t convinced but then I saw the back of the skirt and I like it, very ’800.
I don’t like it at all. And I especially don’t like how the skirt looks from the back.
This doesn’t work for me. I think that she is totally overwhelmed by it and that she just looks a little ridiculous in all honesty. She needs to be taking tips from Leelee Sobieski and Kate Bosworth (both who beautifully pulled off Jil Sander’s voluminous S/S and A/W 2011 cfreations) as to how to pull off unconventional silhouettes. That skirt, in particular, is a disaster.
ITA. Ghastly.
Hate it.
From the front it looks sharp.
From the side, just plain silly.
Love it. Love the skirt, love everything, but I wonder why she is wearing flats?
She is almost always in flats-how tall is she, 180cm? I guess not easy to be comfortable in heels when you are that tall
I love her face!
I LOVE it
Adored it head to toe until I saw the side view of the bustle. Stunning hair and makeup. She looks radiant.
I like the top but I hate the skirt. It makes her look enormous. Hair and makeup are lovely.
Conflicted. Like it and hate it. She is so gorgeous that she almost pulls it off for me. I am amazed by her shoes–not necessarily in a good way
Depending on the photo I either like it or hate it.
I really like this. Her hair and makeup are flawless, so I think that is what really sells the look.
The shoes bother me.
She’s completely covered up in fabric and then you see her toes peaking from underneath the skirt.
Other than that – I quite love it.
What a woman. Stunning and stylish. I love her presence and grace.
I like it a lot because it’s so differently structured with such a simple color palette. Refreshing to see really. And Uma is a stunner herself.
I like the front shot but I can’t help think of the Victorian era when I see the back shot…eek
i am so happy to see Uma looking her awesome self again. I wasn’t sure about the side view picture, but after looking at the Getty photos, I thought maybe she was leaning forward on purpose, but I can’t imagine why. In any case, she looks amaziing.
That’s alot of dress but she’s so statuesque that it works. I really like it .. leaves the runway for dead. Not too keen on the side shot but I’ll put it down to an awkward photograph. She’s on form in her usual elegant style. Beautiful.
I absolutely LOVE it!!!! She looks soooo chic. She looks so beautiful lately!
I like – it’s an avant garde take on something classic that I find so refreshing compared to a lot of other red carpet looks.
That said, thank god she has the height to pull this off.
I love it
I think she’s best dressed from the event. The others are just snoozefest
Absolutely love it!
I prefer the runway look. Her version doesn’t look horrendous but I don’t love it. She looks awkward in the photo…
Love the top, hair and makeup but I hate the skirt. I wasn’t excited about the first look but seriously wth is with the back and I don’t think the way she is standing is helping. However, despite the awful skirt she does hold her own so bravo! I do love the runway skirt though
GLORIOUS! There is nothing like a statuesque, confident woman who has come into her own, to show young Hollywood how it’s done. Take notes kiddies – this is the real deal!
