Michelle Williams took home the ‘Best Actress’ award for her role in ‘My Week with Marilyn’ at the 15th Annual Hollywood Film Awards Gala in LA last night.
She did so wearing a Nina Ricci Spring 2012 gown which is her second first pick from the recently presented Spring 2012 collections.
I love her midnight-blue silk-chiffon gown, especially the metal and sequin embroidered neckline.
My only issue is that Michelle isn’t selling this dramatic gown to me.
I wish this look was saved for someone who has a bit more red carpet presence and she opted for Look 38 instead.
Her black bow front ankle strap peep-toes are a tad too cutesy for such a gown.

Exactly what I thought when I saw the above pictures. The dress is all drama on the runway, but falls flat on her. I think the dress needs someone more statuesque to really do it justice.
the dress is so beautiful but i dont think she has the height to pull it off
Wow she looks so beautiful. I love that she’s ditching the high necklines.
And the nudes. I am so glad this is not a pastel!
+1. Still, Im disappointed.
Yeah!!! I’m thinking… Marion Cotillard
Right on
+2. Brilliant.
I’m thinking … Diane Kruger !
I always got such a MArion vibe from it, the midnight blue, the chiffon, the neckline. So her. I also can’t help btu wonder what it woudl have looked like if the embellishments had continues to be an of the shoulder sleeve, since they look so long on the model. if that makes sense.
Yes–gorgeous dress looks amazingly boring on her. She has NO pizzaz.
+ 1
+1 She’s one huge snore
such an amazing dress!!!!!!!!!
What this needed was a hadn on the hip, mroe dramatic makeup, better heels, a bit of sparkle and an arched back.
Michelle is one of those people that I adore, but I do agree that she often falls flat on the red carpet. It’s because she’s not bold — she doesn’t have the attitude to pull of dramatic pieces. But that’s okay! She’s such a lovely, inspiring person. I think she just needs to cater her clothes more towards this personality. She does better in lighter colors and pieces.
I completely agree with your dress choice. This dress belongs on someone who will WORK it on the red carpet. Also, I wish she would go back to the white blonde hair coloring. I don’t feel like this yellow-ish shade suits her skin tone as well.
i love it. i must be the only one though that does.
i also like it a lot. I have to compliment her for choosing a more daring dress with a stronger colour.
No, I’m with you. The shoes aren’t a problem for me since I can barely see them and her short hair really works here imo.
Michelle may not have a diva-like presence on the red carpet but she looks great.
I always saw Nicole Kidman or even Mila Kunis in this dress and yes the other gown would have been much better in fact it was one that I had on a wish list for Michelle
I hope she has a better awards season next year and really wows as I have a feeling that she will be taking home a few awards
I agree with both your comments. The other dress you and FC like would have looked a lot better on her. She’s not selling this dress at all.
This dress really needs a proper attitude. When you look at her,you should be able to say how she makes the dress beautiful not vice versa.
Agreed. She’s drowning in this dress.
She needs some earrings, a nice clutch, a bold lip color. She never finishes off her looks.
This gown is very similar to the Gucci gowns of Fall 2011 (?), no?
I LOVE this on the runway. Would have loved to have seen it on someone who had the nerve to wear it with the sheer skirt. I think this fits Michelle well for a change but it just looks like a dark, strapless dress on her… nothing special.
I love this dress but for some reason it’s not looking as good as it could.
I think she looks beautiful. The shoes might have needed a slight rethink, but otherwise she’s gorgeous. She might not be a total glamazon, but subdued sophisticate is more her style.
This is an AMAZING dress. So happy to see Michelle in a dress like this! (let’s hope we never had to see another dress like that horrible daisy dress she wore during awards season)
