Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Monthly Archives: September 2011

It wasn’t only my first Balmain presentation; it was new head designer Olivier Rousteing’s too.

The (rather cute) designer didn’t take the Parisian fashion house too far away from its rock n’ roll roots for this Spring 2012 collection, much to the relief of Kate Moss, Rihanna and Alex Gerrard.

We saw plenty of gold-studded, fringed and embellished details on leather jackets, second-skin mini dresses, tops and short leather skirts.

These looks were presented on a colour palette of black, light-wash denim, ice white, silver and gold.

The main focus points were the lightweight denim and leather maxi skirts, the delightfully sinful hot pants, the high waistlines and the wide belts with large gold buckles.

Aside from the celebrity red carpet looks and party pieces, there were plenty of everyday wearable looks within this collection like the ice blue sweaters, white jeans (hello Liz Hurley), denim shirts, slouchy leather pants and white blouses.

Models sported high ponytails and barely-there makeup.

The next stop on the ‘Abduction’ promotional tour for Lily Collins and Taylor Lautner was in Paris this week.

Lily hit the red carpet wearing a Chanel taffeta dress.

This dress is yet another change of style following her edgy Versace look and her retro Marc Jacobs look.

Her feminine and chic navy pencil dress with peplum waist has a decorative black, embellished bow.

The young actress wore her hair back into a simple bun and added black Christian Louboutin peep-toes to her look.

This look is too dark, moody and ageing for me so I can’t get excited about it.

I’m missing a stand-out accessory.

Carven is swiftly becoming one of my favourite brands.

This morning during Paris Fashion Week, Guillaume Henry presented a Parisian elegant collection for Spring 2012 which had plenty of girlie charm.

We saw many short dresses with A-lined skirts, more midriff-baring dresses – which continue to be a trend for Spring 2012 – luxe short suits, sweaters layered over shirts and paired with paper bag shorts, buttery leather dresses – which were also a trend this summer – and long-sleeve lace accented tunic dresses.

I was excited that this collection was full of colourful looks from cool blue and ivory to hot mustard and fuchsia pink.

Guillaume always adds prints to his collections; on this occasion he presented stripes and exotic ikat prints.

The other signature were the Peter Pan collars which no Carven collection goes without.

With the unseasonable hot weather in Paris today, we could wear these pieces right now.

Rihanna is causing quite a stir in the New Lodge area of Belfast, Northern Ireland as she shoots her new music video for her next hit ‘We Found Love’, which features Calvin Harris.

She has several costume changes, but this Jeremy Scott denim look is straight off the Spring 2012 runway.

The denim bra and paper bag denim skirt were paired with laddered stockings and lace-up creepers.

Her look was completed with a bandanna tied around her head, Hilda Ogden style.

Rihanna was asked to leave the set of this location when the landowner, who initially gave his permission for her and the camera crew to be there, became upset by her state of undress.

Little does he know that it could’ve been a look skimpier.

Alexa Chung attended the 2nd Annual Capsule Collection for Vogue Eyewear launch held at Sunglasses Hut’s flagship store in New York on Tuesday.

The TV personality wore a Mary Katrantzou Lily Pond floral print dress from the Fall 2011 collection.

This is the second time this a week that a Mary Katrantzou dress has fallen foul to less than impressive footwear, but that is very much Alexa’s trademark so one should not be surprised.

Her multi-coloured floral-print silk dress was paired with a black Chanel shoulder bag.

This is a really nice dress, but Alexa doesn’t have the chops to pull it off. It’s totally overwhelming her.

Barely-there makeup and trademark messy tresses completed her look.

These girls need to start reading Street Style blogs because Anna Dello Russo, Giovanna Battaglia and co would be able to show them which shoes work with these tricky prints.
