Red Carpet Fashion Awards

Monthly Archives: September 2011

Natalia Vodianova looked breathtaking as she walked the red carpet at the Raisa Gorbachev Foundation’s annual party which was held at Stud House, Hampton Court in London last night.

The Russian model wore a Givenchy Fall 2011 Couture gown.

Her off-white silk tulle gown decorated with feathers and Chantilly lace was worn with a gold belt.

Some lesser mortals would’ve struggled to pull this off, but as a supermodel this look is effortless for Natalia.

She completed her BDOTW-worthy look with a bold orangey red lip colour, a simple updo and a gold and silver crystal box Givenchy clutch.

Yesterday I attended my first and final D&G presentation. Sadly, this Spring 2012 collection will be the last D&G collection as the designers will be focusing on strengthening and expanding their signature line.

Dolce & Gabbana’s kid sister went out with a bang.

Bold, contrasting prints dominated the runway of this glamorous, feminine collection which is the most colourful, eclectic and fun presentation I’ve seen this Fashion Week.

The only solid pieces are a white shirt, two knit sweaters and a denim pant suit.

The silhouettes ranged from flowy dresses of various lengths with handkerchief hemlines, to ultra-short fitted mini dresses, which I’m placing bets on Fergie being the first to wear on the red carpet.

We also saw sexy shorts, bloomers, cropped tops, printed pants, tunics and a finale of maxi dresses.

The fabulous, eclectic prints with nods to the 90s were teamed with satin print wedges and gold gladiator flats.

Other key accessories included oversized straw hats, which I immediately pictured on Kimora Lee Simmons, charm bracelets, satin print wedges, minaudières, fold-over clutches, tassel-accent quilted bags and lots of ghetto gold jewellery.

Favourites: Paisley print top with floral print shorts and printed shirt and matching pants

Who I See Wearing This Collection: Fergie, Kimora Lee Simmons, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Kelly Rowland, Jessie J and Shingai Shoniwa

Beyonce Knowles opted for a glam look for her appearance at Macy’s in New York City yesterday whilst promoting her new fragrance, “Pulse”.

She wore an angelic Lanvin Resort 2012 gown.

I was hoping Beyonce was going to give Jessica Alba a run for her money in the maternity style department, but so far she hasn’t.

Beyonce hasn’t really rocked a winning maternity look since she announced to the world she was pregnant at the MTV Music Awards – but it’s still early days and she’s probably still adjusting to her new body.

I find this off-white silk crepe halter gown with a jeweled neckline very Tina Knowles-esque and a  tad overwhelming with the feathers.

I also question whether she was wearing a bra.

Nicholas Kirkwood sandals completed her look.

Fendi’s Spring 2012 presentation was full of playful, ladylike pieces within this classic yet modern collection.

I loved the stripes and the colourful embroidery which featured on many of the looks.

Models swayed down the runway wearing mid-length dresses, suede trench coats and boyish blazers with cut-away cold shoulders.

We also saw lightweight leather jackets, samurai shoulders, tailored blazers, fur vests, cool blue shirts, loose-fitted pants and hooded jackets.

Towards the end of the presentation, Karl showcased sheer black dresses with twirl designs.

These dresses would be perfect for a balmy evening whilst on vacation, or a daring diva on the red carpet.

Key accessories included multi-coloured strappy sandals, sunglasses, fur-trimmed clutches and perforated leather shoulder bags which also double up as totes.

The models’ tresses were teased into Betty Draper-esque bouffants.

Front Row: Bianca Brandolini d’Adda and Delfina Delettrez Fendi

Favourites: Red striped jacket and skirt and cold-shoulder striped dress

Who I See Wearing This Collection: Bianca Brandolini d’Adda, Delfina Delettrez Fendi, Minka Kelly, Rihanna, Miranda Kerr, Taylor Swift, Roxane Mesquida, Giovanna Battaglia, Karolina Kurkova and Rose Byrne

Sarah Jessica Parker joined Stella McCartney and other stars on the red carpet last night at the 2011 New York City Ballet Fall Gala, which was held at the David H. Koch Theatre at Lincoln Center.

SJP wore a white Stella McCartney Spring 2012.

Yep, we have another not-yet-hit-the-runway look. Rose McGowan wore the first Spring 2012 dress to her “Conan The Barbarian” LA Premiere last month.

I love Sarah’s one-sleeve white lace dress, but I’m not too crazy about the accessories.

The floral accent is very ‘Carrie Bradshaw’, but the green suede shoes aren’t nearly as exciting at her chic, sexy dress.

I wish that just once SJP would carry a clutch on the red carpet.

Girlfriend loves a shoulder/cross-body bag on the RC.

A purposely messy trademark bun and stand-out jewels completed her look.

Celebrities fell in love with MaxMara this year, so I was eager to see which pieces they could possibly be picking from the Spring 2012 collection.

On a colour palette of neutral shades of sand, coffee, aqua blue, gold and ivory plus white and black, MaxMara presented mostly lightweight daywear separates with gold hardware accents.

We saw cocoon dresses, tight-fitted colour-block knit dresses, leather shorts, rompers with clear panels, bomber jackets, cropped leather jackets and strapless jumpsuits from this sporty, utilitarian collection.

I particularly loved the drop-waist dress with a leather panel which seemed to be held together with gold accents that looked like staples. This look was paired with pedal pushers as many pieces were.

If you are looking for something which is simple and chic that doesn’t follow the Spring 2012 plastic or floral trend, then these pieces would be perfect for you.

Key accessories included satchels, lace-up wedges and shades.

With a sunkissed glow, the models sported twisted dreadlocks.

Favourites: Aqua blue crepe dress with panelled center and sand drop-waist dress

Who I See Wearing This Collection: Zoe Saldana, Maggie Q, Anne Hathaway, Carey Mulligan, Ginnifer Goodwin, Tilda Swinton, Michelle Monaghan, Elle Macpherson, Karolina Kurkova and Diane Kruger
