Alexa Chung attended the 2nd Annual Capsule Collection for Vogue Eyewear launch held at Sunglasses Hut’s flagship store in New York on Tuesday.
The TV personality wore a Mary Katrantzou Lily Pond floral print dress from the Fall 2011 collection.
This is the second time this a week that a Mary Katrantzou dress has fallen foul to less than impressive footwear, but that is very much Alexa’s trademark so one should not be surprised.
Her multi-coloured floral-print silk dress was paired with a black Chanel shoulder bag.
This is a really nice dress, but Alexa doesn’t have the chops to pull it off. It’s totally overwhelming her.
Barely-there makeup and trademark messy tresses completed her look.
These girls need to start reading Street Style blogs because Anna Dello Russo, Giovanna Battaglia and co would be able to show them which shoes work with these tricky prints.

I’ll never understand what the fuss is with this girl, she’s nothing special IMO. A true style icon needs better shoes.
Well said.
I totally agree, not to mention that those “trademark messy tresses” simply look rained on.
I totally agree, too – on everything you said.
She also needs a brush and a blowdryer…
I am never that into her but i love this dress
As i said before, thank you Keira Knightley. Sadly wrong people with wrong shoes took notice of you.
I have a problem with the hair even more than with the shoes! She did not even bother to use a comb. At least she made a little more effort than in other occasions. Still, I too do not understand how she can be considered a fashion icon.
Actually, these shoes look a little bit more interesting than plain black hooves (hoofs?) or the booties the dress was styled with. From what I can see, I like them. Anyway, so glad to see MK’s fab dresses getting some love on the RC.
Agree on the shoes, and actually they work with the print of the dress quite well. Too bad she is not working this bold print.
I agree with your remark on the shoes. I wouldn’t have been surprised to see her wearing her brogues with this dress; luckily we have been spared that sight. Beautiful dress, I like her make-up but she does need to sort out that grungey mop.
Ugh. This is so disappointing! It’s totally fallen flat, where has that amazing shape in the skirt gone? And that hair…*weeps*
the skirt is crooked… it’s really obvious with a print like this when your dress is a mess…
What I like is that she doesn’t give a damn what anyone says about her or the way she dresses.
I so agree with you FC – Alexa doesn’t pull this off well. We’re not used to seeing her in these busy prints, it doesn’t suit her.
That hair: the horror.
Awful on Alexa. The shoes are unspeakable, but I do love that dress.
The dress is beautiful, I agree, but the shoes and the hair hurt my eyes, really.
Am about to give up on this girl. Has there been any look she has ever worn well?
Im suprised you haven’t already.
And to answer your question: no.
She looks like a waitress at a diner who is about to serve me some pie. I have a feeling that wasn’t the look she was going for.
She needs to get a hairbrush, then read style blogs. It is jsut a depressingly bad look. At Least LEeLee worked her look, even if she stabbed it a few times with the styling.
This is not the first time Alexa sucks the life and energy out of what would be considered AMAZING clothes. I dont understand her appeal at all.
somebody give her some shampoo already…sheesh
+1000 ^^
Dear Fashion Powers That Be:
Stop trying to make Alexa Chung a fashion icon. She either looks like a grandmother or dirty. She very rarely actually looks good.
Apart form the hair I actually htink she looks kinda good.
I don’t think the dress overwhelms her… it’s just those god-awful shoes.
I’m not sure if I’m delusional, but I think the last words were a great slap!! Either i’m delusional or have been reading you for too long and know you too well by now… Kind of sacared!!
Both her face and her hair need plastic surgery.
