Rosamund Pike and Gillian Anderson joined Rowan Atkinson for the World Premiere of their new movie, “Johnny English Reborn” at The Entertainment Quarter in Sydney, Australia yesterday.
It was quite literally a tale of two dresses.
Rosamund Pike: The blonde British actress looked like she didn’t get the Premiere memo, because she was more beach-ready than red carpet ready. She wore a white crochet short sleeved Alaia Spring 2011 dress with a red underlay. This red dress matched her Charlotte Olympia Dolores quilted pumps and red lip colour.
Gillian Anderson: The American actress decided on a more glamorous approach, as she wore a beautiful wine-coloured velvet gown with a plunging neckline.
So which summer blockbuster World Premiere red carpet look works better for you?
Rosamund, because she’s summer appropriate and having fun at this comedy Premiere, or Gillian because she dressed the part for a World Premiere?

Gillian Anderson often looks awkward on the red carpet – she just looks nervous posing here. She’s one of my favourite actresses, so it’s good to see her looking so beautiful.

Gillian has slimmed down a lot since her X-Files days in America. I like her outfit better, though nothing stunning. Rosamund looks like she’s wearing her own clothes to a friend’s party. She needs an entrourage (stylist, make-up, hair, personal trainer … all that good stuff in a big studio contract). She’s smart and talented and was hot (starring with Ryan Gosling) in the 2007 movie Fracture. But she fizzled fast … to American audience anyway.
I agree with you that Gillian chose something a bit more suitable for the season and event. I have a soft spot for Rosamund and think it’s a sad state if an ‘entourage’ is the only way someone can look their best. I think she looks good here, but it’s just not event appropriate.

Besides, if you expect celebrities to wear the traditional, classic, movie premier frocks, then you are seriously living in the wrong millennium.
I attended this premiere and I swear Gillian’s dress looked phenomenol in person. The crimson velvet was gorgeous, the cut amazing on her body and her shoes were killer. Shame it didn’t photograph quite so well!
Rosamund looked lovely too, but a little bit beachy for what was one of the biggest premieres Sydney has seen in a whike.
Also, Gillian is a British actress, not an American.

She has a British accent, and was born there, but picked up an American accent when she moved to the US. She now lives in England, and is about as English as you can get.

She was born in chicago moved to london when she was 2, moved back to the u.s. when she was 11..moved back to london after the x-files ended. she switches back and forth between american and british accents depending on who she talks too..watch any interview that mentions her “upbringing”..she explains it all herself. She’s an American living in England,living that kind of lifestyle. Anyhoo..She looked breathtaking. Rosamund was nice too but Gillian outdid her.
