Aretha Franklin performed to a packed crowd at the DTE Energy Center in Clarkston, Michigan yesterday.
A legendary diva needed a bold gown to match her commanding performance, and they don’t come much bigger or bolder than Oscar de la Renta.
Despite this being the second time we are seeing this gown worn by a celebrity, it’s the first time the strapless green gown with pink carnation appliqués has been worn with the pink ruched cape.

This really is a dress meant to be worn by divas only.
Ms. Franklin is a legend as you’ve said. She comes from a time when talent trumped a half naked, gyrating, crass individual. She could sing half of today’s “singers” under the table.
I like this dress on her, its not the the best i’ve seen but i’d rather my legends be fiercely talented than fiercely dressed any day.
The dress still look like a crumpled bedsheet to me.

I hate the colors in this. The green is particularly bad. I liked Rihanna’s version much better.
I have never gotten this dress. Is it meant to look so stiff, and to me it looks so shoddily made, but obviously not, if its Oscar de la Renta… I just dont gettit!

This is politically incorrect, but she is clearly unhealthy and that alone kills this dress for me. Obesity is not attractive. Sorry.
I dont think she was trying to look attractive.. she was trying to perform on a stage wearing a beautiful dress.. whether the dress is beautiful or not is the question here.. since its a fashion blog.. not whether Aretha is attractive. what kind of comment is this??
