Earlier this year, celebrities set the trend for wearing green on the red carpet during Awards Season, opting for elegant, dramatic gowns in different shades of the rich hue.

This summer the trend is back but instead of long gowns the stars are favouring flirty minis with fun details like peplums, short sleeves, python panels plus asymmetrical hemlines and necklines in shades of vibrant Kelly green to deep emerald.

Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge was the first to reignite this trend when she wore a Kelly green Diane von Furstenberg dress on her recent visit to LA last month.

Following her gorgeous outing, several celebrities were seen on the red carpet in the same vibrant colour.

Both Frieda Pinto and Rachel Nichols opted dress which sat just below the knee.

New girl on the block Roxane Mesquida donned a style similar Diane von Furstenberg dress to the Duchess.

Amanda Seyfried’s flirty Prabal Gurung dress with black detailing looked super chic with cross-over strappy heels, whilst Jayma Mays added some fun to her Reem Acra dress by adding silk pumps in a rich eggplant shade.

Just last night Kat Dennings wore a vintage 80’s Diane Von Furstenberg emerald green wrap top silk dress from New/Found Vintage to CBS,The CW And Showtime TCA Party.

Choose how to work this trend by opting for sophistication like Catherine or add some spice by wearing fun shoes in an equally bright colour or print like Roxane, Jayma and Emma Stone.

Be careful not to go too overboard with colour though, as you don’t want to end up looking like a Crayola box.

Green was also a huge hit on the Fall 2011 runways as Oscar de la Renta, Diane von Furstenberg, Marc by Marc Jacobs and 3.1 Phillip Lim all sent models down the runway wearing green.
